Copyright Violation: Yet Another One!

Sat Feb 17, 2001 3:35 am

Hey,

I was browsing the internet when I found this web site:http://www.flyingfans.com
There are a number of pictures on this web site taken directly from Ailiners.net without proper credit to the respective photographers. They are mainly AA pictures... I know for one thing that the guy does not care about infringing upon copyright laws because he stole pictures from my personal web site and replicated the general layout of my site (using the pictures I designed, see for yourself, my website is at http://www.airreviews.com). He just basically replaced my name by his in the copyright notice at the bottom of his home page... I sent him a nasty email asking him to remove from his site all the design elements he stole but he does not respond. He also says on his web site that he intends on posting pictures scanned directly from a book...
Anyway check it out. I know his web site is hosted by www.bizland.com and that he violated their rules. If he does not comply I will ask bizland to shut down his site. What do you think? Should I do it?

Blatant ripoff - it's really disgusting, but unfortunately, all too common in today's internet world.

Mls737, you should at least bombard that guestbook with some nasty comments - and then "report" him to those three aviation webs (or whatever they) that he's got listed on his guestbook page.
He's most likely a kid - describes himself as a Pilot (note the uppercase P), but his "own shots" consist of screen shots from some FS software!

We at Airliners.net can identify with this problem all too well, unfortunately - we've seen several aviation sites pop up that used our code, design, datalists, etc., for their own sites. One site even forgot to change our name to theirs on the copyright message! We've had to resort to using Java scripts wherever possible to combat this scourge.

Anyone else spot their shots there? With just a quick look I saw an AirNikon B738 and a Chris Coduto MD11. Didn't have time to go through the rest, but there are several others. Email him an invoice for royalties, guys ... that'll scare him into shutting it down.

I just signed his guestbook with the following message:

Good job with your website, you stole three of my pictures form airliners.net.
All this pictures are copyrighted and you did not ask for my persission of using these.
Please have this pictures removed immidiately from your website, otherwise I will send you an invoice for usage.

Pictures I am referring to are: 2 AC Dc-9-32 flight deck shots and the B737-832 DL Shuttle flight deck shot at night.

Vasco Garcia

A fairly crummy site if you ask me. It crased my browser twice, a pain in the a** to navigate, viewing the photos with all of those frames is a pain as well. It would appear that he has a fascination with Ameriflot (AA). Suffice it to say none of my work is there. Sadly, this is something that is going to be more commonplace as the internet grows and aside from sending threating e-mails, realisticly there is very little we can do. Especially when artwork is displayed on a non for profit site, like his.

MLS great find, I appriciate it. An email has been sent to him, telling him to remove my photos or he'll face legal action, under US and International copyright laws.

anyway thanks for the find Mls737....does the "mls" in your screen name have anything to do with the major soccer league? just wondering...

hehehe...this kid can't spell either: GALLERYS should be GALLERIES.

A very slow and difficult site to navigate, i agree. I get the feeling it was created by a complete novice. But just now when i went to that site, and browsed under "commercial airplane gallerys" it says "choose an image", well there are no images to choose! I think he might have removed them...

It usually won't take much to scare a kid like this off. From what I have seen in the past, most sites will remove these pics, once we start to make an issue out of it.

Whoever Richard Pankey is, he must have read this thread on our forum - I noticed that the typo I mentioned earlier has been corrected.

So, Richard, now you know what happens when you rip off someone else's work. Just be thankful that none of these guys took legal action against you (yet).

Now, there's still the issue of the site design ... get programming, 'cos I'm sure Mls737 isn't going to be off your case until you make some fundamental design changes.
