LGW this is who and what Dale Earnhardt was:

Seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Dale Earnhardt, the man who transformed US stock car racing from Southern pastime to primetime sport, has died from head injuries sustained in a last-lap accident in the Daytona 500 on February 18th.

Earnhardt, known as ‘The Intimidator’ due to his crowd-pleasing aggressive style, made his Winston Cup debut in 1975. After several seasons of sporadic starts, he was Rookie of the Year in 1979 and took the first of his seven titles in 1980. More titles followed in 1986-87, 1990-91 and 1993-94. His 76 career victories put him sixth overall in the all-time Winston Cup standings.

He was a hero to many.

Shame on you Tom! NASCAR is an autosport that those outside of the U.S. may not be familiar with. This King Air was operated by DEI (Dale Earnhardt Incorporated), as the reg# suggests (N3DE). Dale Sr.'s black car has been #3 since I can remember.

Many larger NASCAR teams have large twins or small biz jets to transport the drivers and key personnel to/from races. From the location listed, it appears that this aircraft had been flown to New Hampshire for the NASCAR race at Louden. Many of the drivers are pilots themselves, however "Big E" wasn't, as he preferred to go fast on the ground and not in the air.

I consider these cool shots, because The Intimidator has always been my favorite driver!

i remember some time ago when alan kulwicki died in a plane crash...that was here in the tri-cities..my friend heard his plane hit the ground...alan kulwicki was another NASCAR driver who had a Fairchild Merlin (N500AK) crashed near the end of runway 23 at TRI...i was really little then and i don't remember much about it, but i know everyone around here was really shocked...tragedies do happen...

may the Intimidator and Kulwicki rest in peace. God bless them.
