What On Earth Is This?

Wed Mar 28, 2001 2:26 pm

A person who works with my father sent this to me at my father's request. As a courtesy for those with slow connections and don't want to load the photo every time this topic is viewed, here's a link to it:

So what's the deal with this?

I forget where i saw that picture, but i believe it was a bomb test on potential "bomb-proof" cargo can... that picture had a bomb in 5 "bomb-proof" cans and one regular can...

I believe... i HAVE seen this before, but its driving me nuts where... im 94% sure thats the answer however...

AHHH.. know what? im 50% correct... im right about the exploding part, but i think the picture itself is a fake... it certainly wasnt landing when they blew it up... cut and paste works like a charm

The part being blown up is a little brighter than the rest of the aircraft, so it's a fake

Just because the blown up part is "lighter" doesn't mean this picture is fake... you have to look at all the clues to tell it is a forgery.

My compliments to the perp... it is done with a skilled hand.

Clever picture and pretty well done.

The exploding part is an ex Air France 741 that was used in a test explosions at Bruntingthorpe in the UK. The DERA were experimenting with different cargo pods and how they and the airframe reacted to bomb damage, if I remember correctly this is with 20kg's of Semtex explosive.

Tappan, It may be of bad taste, but it's still well made.

Guys,

Just had this sent to me a couple days ago. It is such skillful image manipulation that makes us hesitate before declaring it a fake.

I believe Air Canada fleet #307 was stored Marana as an airworthy ship in 1999. If this is true, then this is something that would have happened within the past year or so, and we would have heard about it.

I'm not so sure the aircraft was landing. Yes the spoilers are deployed, but look at all that engine core heat. More image manipulation?

Anyway, I would like to see one other image related to this. That would be a candid shot of the perp's face when served with a court summons. It may not be illegal, but distribution of such an image can have inentended consequences, in that it brings us all one step closer to being a regulated activity. It can happen.

I saw it was a fake from the first glance! there are lines of dirt under the 'blown' windows that do not exist in the rest of the aircraft. The blown part IS whiter as someone already mentioned.

That photo is fake. The actual photo can be seen in the book Boeing 747 by Guy Norris & Mark Wagner. Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Fake.,.
Notice Thrust from the engines.. CF6-80 whatever for air canada.
And see how at the back where it says "boeing 747"
you only see the '747' part but no Boeing at the piece adjacent to it..
the Rust forming under the windows where theres none at front.. so forrth..

Bo,

Not that I'm saying it's real (because it's not) but I see the "Boeing" before the "747". You don't see it???

Photoshop... What a wonderous thing.

I agree, this was made in bad taste. It is pretty well done but could be better. It is obviously a fake to the trained eye but at a not so close glance could be seen as real. Hopefully it is being represented as a fake because I doubt Air Canada would like the idea of this public "slander."

Whoops.. Mike Your right.
It does say Boeing..
I merly thought that it was just the inside junk metal sticking out..during the explosion.
