I have seen so many great photographs on the internet. Many have been of airplanes. The photographers on Airliners.net are second to none. I say this of their work - incredible. Composition is second to none. Also - the scanning of some of these photographers who are obsessed with capturing these flying machines on film is also second to none. It is not easy to transfer the energy of these amazing machines to a picture that is viewable on this internet thing. This may be a little off topic - hope it does not warrant deletion... but to some of the better photographers on this site - and YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE - how about sharing some non-aviation pictures with us. You all have demonstrated a talent for airliner photography - but life goes beyond airplanes. Airplanes fly from place to place. Culture is the real mix. Culture is the lifeblood. I hope in the future to see links from photographers here such as - should I mention names ? Gerry - Eduard - Mike - Diane - Vasco - Gary - Stephanie - Luis - Jan - Joe - Sunil - Jason - and whoever else I didn't point out -
anyways - I hope we all soon become as obsessed and sharing with the cultural elements around us as we are with our pictures of airplanes. Life is culture - airplanes merely bring cultures closer together.

Interesting topic,

Yes. Besides airplanes I like to shoot skylines, life in a city, landscape etc....

A lot of fun can be people if you either have the right moment or a good model.

As I am not home right now I only have limited access to pictures but I found 2 interesting ones.

1.) Guadalajara, Mexico
http://hofheim.homestead.com/files/Zapopan4.JPG

As soon as I saw this I had to take a picture. It almost could like a picture out of a tourguide for GDL.

2.) Also GDL, Mexico

I think this is an excellent topic!

I do all kinds of other photography: Portaits, cityscapes, weather (tornadoes especially), aurora borealis, wildlife, and railroad. Of course aviation is by far my favorite, but these other styles really broaden and sharpen your photography skills as a whole.

I wish I had more non-aviation photos scanned, but I usually save those photos for slide-shows and such.

But, here are some rough examples:

Black Rhino @ Omaha Zoo
http://home.earthlink.net/~airphotos/rhino.jpg

Union Pacific Engine @ UP Museum in Omaha (at night)
http://home.earthlink.net/~airphotos/up.jpg

Aric Thalman
Omaha, NE

To most people, the sky is the limit. To those who love aviation, the sky is home

I take photos of roller coasters. Some of my early ones aren't that good since all I had was a point and shoot 35mm...but since I bought my SLR and digital camera it's a different story.

Also starting to take pictures of scenery and animals... but don't have many and don't have any scanned.

Roller Coasters

I have a nice picture of an old wooden roller coaster that I captured at Cedar Point - close to Cleveland, Ohio. I will send it to you. I think you will like it. Thanks to all that have replied to this post. This means alot to me - fore without culture - airplanes would not exist - if you don't believe me , ask the Wright Brothers......

I also don't shoot exclusively aircraft. Whenever I travel with the specific purpose of shooting aircraft at faraway airports, I try to set aside some time to 'tour' the city and shoot other photos as well.

On my recent trip up to the Bay Area, I was able to spend one morning away from the airports and took these (among many, many others):

http://www.loebdesign.com/images/bridge.jpg

http://www.loebdesign.com/images/alcatraz-1.jpg (sorry for the jpeg compression on this one) Note Alcatraz hidden in the fog.

Here is a photo that I took at the State Farms Women's Tennis Tournament of Lindsey Davenport:

http://www.loebdesign.com/images/davenport.jpg

These are just some of the other kinds of photography that I enjoy. I think that one of the problems that the new photogs here have, is that they start out with aviation rather than end up at it. They don't understand the use of light, composition and subject. Take that bridge shot for example, it may only be me, but I love the way your eye just follows it from the left to the right to the "main" part of the bridge that so many others will only shoot.

Anyways, this is a fun topic.

I like traveling a lot and try to see many parts of the world and of course I always have my camera with me. Unfortunately, I don't have those photos anywhere online yet, but you would see architecture, landscape, sunsets, and what I really like, everything to do with the sea. What I'm not so good at (yet), is taking photos of people. At least my girlfriend always complains about that when I take a photo of her - but maybe it's her fault?!

WOW - the Alcatraz photo is amazing - and the photo of Lindsey Davenport is very interesting - the look on her face is great. Well done !!! Somehow I knew there was life beyond airplanes. Life is good. I hope a few more of the Airliners.net photographers send a few our way. Need I mention names ? Richard, Mark G, Joe, Henry, CKW, Cabbot, Martin, Jorge, Frank, Andy, Glenn, Olav, John Stewart, Mark A, Pierre L, Chris, and that nikon guy - Air ? Along with those I mentioned earlier - I love to point yall out - and I know I have missed many - pixair - and tons of others - man - I could go on all nite...... Airliners.net is full of great photographers - and the folks who run it are pretty cool 2.... but sadly - we will never see a picture of the administrator....  Crying

Hi all

Thanks for the mention Planeboy!

This is a nice topic.....granted away from aircraft........so I hope Johan will allow this to leave.

I like city skylines also. Some of my recent good ones have came from Hong Kong, Sydney, Perth, Singapore.

Infact, if I have a camera with me and something looks good, I will shoot it, whether it be a cityscape, people, dogs, birds etc. Also strange weather effects. If I see a funny looking cloud, I will shoot it Big grin

On my own website I am possibly planning to add cityscapes etc to be downloaded along with the aircraft. As a taster, go to:

http://members.xoom.com/worldwings/misc/hk1997.zip

This is a wallpaper I made from a shot of Hong Kong. Ignore the error message. It should download OK. If not, give me a shout.

It's just a pity that we all could share our shots somewhere.....or is there?

I'd love to share some of my other stuff - I guess aircraft make up about 15% of my collection, but its so hard to find the time! One of the reasons I like A.net is it seems to have a purpose - hence adding pics to A.net has taken priority over building my own site ... but one day I'll get it done - I've already designed a lovely home page!

Hi!
As I'm travelling a lot both private and for business, I've got a lot of pictures at my album list for example Amsterdam - The Netherlands, Kos Island - Greece, Lago di Garda - Italy, Madrid and Toledo - Spain, New York and San Francisco.
Just surf through and have fun. If you look close to the San Francisco Album there's even one of me.

Great topic.

I take a lot of landscape/flora/scenic pictures, but haven't found a good way of presenting them yet on the net.

I've got a lot of photos which would probably do pretty well as postcards. Does anyone know how to get in touch with postcard publishers? Is there a web site that caters to such interests?

I'll shoot animals sometimes. I was spotting, and found a gator sub bathing, and a little rabbit chewing on a flower, kinda cool looking. Um....sunsets at the beach, which I did in LA last month. My job is a photographer at a theme park, so I always have a camera at hand.

Hi planeboy and all the others

fine topic indeed. It's great to surf through the albums, to find some amazing shots, and to learn about the other interests of the photographers ... this topic lifts off a little bit the curtain behind some anonymous names....

Myself I love travelling and taking photos of landscapes and cities, but so far I never got the time to create my own homepage , but as soon I have a little bit more spare time I will do it.

kind regards

I love to shot sunsets with strange clouds formations, also I like to shot birds and people in bizarre situations and when traveling I shot everything.

I don't have these kind of pictures available right now to show on internet. I have hundreds of photos from a car travel around Europe in a website that I can't remember the name and I lost the URL adress (how stupid). It's a site with a small name and everybody can show photos like in a photo album (ex Webshots), any help would be very welcome because I don't know how to find that site were I have lots of photos. Any names for these kind of sites?

thanks

RE: My School Is Having A 1000Dollar Photo Contest

Wed Apr 11, 2001 7:18 am

When I can.. I take shots of my friends..
Girls are probably my most favorite subject..
They're Beautiful.. Teenage ones in High School..

I dont really take other pictures except airplanes.
But at times I go for Trains, Buildings, My Rabbit that lives under my paddio.. (Someones paying me for rabbit picts)
And I plany on trying out Flowers with my Polarizer.

By the way..

My schools holding a photo contest to see who can take the best picture with their cameras..
But its for school related shots only.
Reward for 1st is 1000 dollars!
I'm trying to give it a shot but I'll probably need some of your help guys..
Tips, advice and Warnings??
My target is Either girls at my age, guys, or funny even happening or night shots like dances..

I want to take a perfect shot with my SLR and my Polarizer..
I have to say that I have an advantage cuz Im one of the VERY VERY few that has their own SLRs with Telephoto lens while others use P and Shoot poops.

You mentioned taking a shot of a school dance.... set up a tripod in a dance hall (you might feel like a goof ball though, i probably would) and take a time-expose shot... all the lights and people dancing would probably look pretty cool...

just an idea, good luck..

I don’t get nearly as much time as I used to for non-aviation photography. You can see some of my non-aviation shots at:

Some of these shots required hours of waiting.. it's hard to find that kind of time now when all my spare time is spent at the end of a runway somewhere  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
