99% of Hong Kong is very safe.

You can only take a ferry or rent a boat to get to Sha Lo Wan. The ferry runs when it wants to on Sundays and holidays !!. If they change runway you stuck.

The scheduled ferry service from Tung Chung to Sha Lo Wan only run on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, with one service every hour from 8am to 6pm (5pm on Saturdays). During the middle part of the day when passengers are few, the schedule can indeed slip. Your best bet would be the early morning and the late afternoon, when the schedule tend to be the most reliable.

Did you mentioned that you'll be in HKG for summer? Sha Lo Wan is rather unsuitable for photography in summer due to the position of the sun, as everything becomes backlit from mid-morning onward.

My personal favourite spot for summer (especially when runway 25 is in use) is the pier next to the HAECO hangars, where I can get departure shots of aircraft that are brightly lit by the afternoon sun.

(Shots taken by a friend...)

Needed plenty of sunscreen lotion, as there is absolutely no shelter of any kind from the sun over there!
