Wow! this is a tough call.... One could argue that since Cable TV HongKong submitted the image and it was they who made the image that it does not break the rules. I suppose it is up to the viewer and Joahn to decide. Personally I do not care for it.

We all (aviation buffs) are glued to the news when something as horrible as this happens to the aviation community that we all are passionate about. It happens. I do not feel as if the photo is exploiting. It was gathered as a news organization should gather..I am sure the image is painful for families and airline employees, but I think this type of photo on airliners.net is an important one (historically speaking) for those here who use a.net to further their info regarding these things.School reports, thesis etc.

Images that are accident or inncident related can be accepted allthough they may be of bad quality or display the date in the corner or simmilar. I'm pretty sure it says something like that in the FAQs.

I agree with Mark, it should stay as it does depict an incident that will be thought of for years to come not only by the families of the victims, but aviation enthusiasts as well. Also this was one of the first shots of the CI MD-11 crash as well and it does provide the viewer with an abundance of information on which he/she can use to imagine just how this incident occured.

After all, the image was submitted by the company that owns the copyright to this "screenshot".

I remember when it was uploaded, I for one viewed the full size image and appreciated the information that the shot contained given that I took photos of this aircraft 30hrs prior to the crash (see below).

Not if you did not shoot the image yourself. Big grin

Rules - You Were Saying?

Glenn, living in a glasshouse and throwing stones..... interesting.

From memory I believe that aircraft crashed, and these being the last shots this aircraft prior to the crash of it were very important to both myself, and the people that view this site.

Interesting that none of these aircraft have crashed.

These examples are just some of many that are here @ a.net and you may note that of these 4 photos 2 contain wrong information (Qantas Air Calin?, F-DMPX??? Doesn't exist). These shots were all taken on the same day.

To Glenn and Frank, I think you both would do a big favor to Johan and all the other photographers if you start checking your duplicate photos and ask Johan to remove them. This is not funny anymore.

Luis, As guilty as I am, I was only pointing out to an aquantaince who has emailed me in the past with so called dupes, that he too is as guilty as I. Seems to have been a mute point  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
In all honesty, I think it is not the number of photos one has here, it is the quality of them. Looking back on them they are extremely crappy scans  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

But you are right, some of these should be removed to conform with the moving goal posts.

Regards

Glenn
