This Guy Is Good!

Tue May 08, 2001 2:30 pm

While we are all familiar with Frank Scahefer, and Craig Murray's great work from down under, but there is one Aussie shooter who's work seems to be going un-noticed.I am referring to Adelaide shooter Jason Milligan, his style of work is certainly unique and very eye-catching. Frankly, I don't know why his work is being overlooked, perhaps that the relatively small ADL is overshadowed by the huge SYD, regardless I suggest you check out his photos.

Hi Thomas,

i disagree that Jason´s work is being un-noticed. Have a look at the amount of photos Jason has on a.net and how many average hits. At least i am one guy that keeps an eye on Jason´s great work and i am sure there are many more doing the same.

Keep on with the great work Jason!

Regards

One word, Ramp Access!

However, I also agree he has some fantastic work but agree also that it is not being overlooked!! I had one of his SOHK 2 shots as my wallpaper at work for a day ( I change it daily!).

Nice work Jason, good to see praise where it is so rightfully deserved!

And as you were so kind to compliment me on one of my Wunala Dreaming shots I believe I should re-display this absolute gem of a shot of VH-OJB!

Hi Guys,

Just like to say a big Thanks for the nice feedback  Smile

I've been with Qantas for nearly 3 years now but haven't started with the ramp shots until late.
I try to be discreet about it now as Melbourne Airport (my current workplace) is a much more sensitive area than Adelaide.

Thanks again guys. Craig, Frank; We must meet the next time I come up to Sydney  Smile

Dont listen to him!!..........this guy is a fraud!!............he stole all my photos!!.. HAHAH

J/K. I know Jason personally and have been spotting with him in Melbourne on quite a number of occasions. (not knocking you equipment here jase!......seeing as i have a very similar camera!, both late model Pentax) But Jason i PROOF that you dont need to go out and spend oodles of dollars on expensive cameras to get good results. A good eye and a natural flare for photgraphy also helps!!.

I should also point out that Jason takes excellent photos at whatever he points his camera at. Not only does he have great aircraft shots.....he has a lot of other great shots with all different subjects.

Good work buddy!........speak to you soon no doubt!.

Jason says he has Sigma lenses, but these generally suck!

Jason, c'mon! give some Pentax lenses a try, they make great lenses!

I would recommend the 28-70 F/4AL and the 80-320 4.5-5.6. If you're into big fast lenses, then they have 28-70 f/2.8 ED-IF and 80-200 f/2.8 ED-IF. They also have some rather neat stuff, that too is sharp as a razor, like the 250-600 f/5.6.

Cullen,

I disagree with your comments about Sigma lenses. While some of their lenses may be below standard, both Frank and I have the Sigma 170-500mm lenses running on Canon bodies and we can both assure you that the quality is superb.

But this is running on Canon equipment, not sure what it works like on other makes.

And Jason, next time you are here let us know and we'll organise a suitably alcoholic day of spotting/photographing up here for you! Davo, you had better come along for the ride too!!!!

As for 500mm quality, here's a couple of quick samples.

I know that some of them are good. I like the 50-500, 135-400, and 170-500. In addition the 70-210 stands out.(just see Gary's photos for the quality).

I have 170-500, 70-300 and 80-210 Sigma Minolta fittings and although i have only been able to test them out on my garden (not been to enough airports yet) I know they are good lenses.

I look forward to getting good shots with these lenses and what i have seen from Craig and Frank they are of good quality!

Cullen,

Guess what mate....NO I'm not into 'big fast' lenses! I'm into making great images!!! I doubt I would by any better or worse a photographer regardless of which brand of lens I used.
