Should I Upload Any Of These?

Wed May 30, 2001 8:03 am

Guys,

I was going through my Zurich pics from last week, and found these. I was at the heliport parking lot, and a heavily loaded MD-11 lifted off just opposite (usually they are already well off the ground by then).

I think the pics are rather dramatic - it almost looks like the plane is going down. What do you think? Should I include these or not? If so, which one?

None. Each scan has distinct vertical banding on the left side of the pic.

If those lines wern't there I would say the first one becaue you can see the wing flex better which looks cool.

I like the first one..Not because you may think "it looks like it is going down"...I like it because it shows a slice of life at the airport you go to....It gives me a quick and nice view of what you yourself may see at your local airport and thousands of miles away from my airport, BOS
Neat Picture..I like it alot

(i assume the lines will be gone in the uploaded version) duh!

anyway, i think those are pretty sweet... the first one grabs my attention the most, you can really feel the atmostphere of that parking lot, you can practically hear the plane roaring past...

the only bad thing i would say is that it looks like the type of shot anyone with a disposable would take just in spite; ("oh look betty, an airplane, lets take a picture") but that wasnt my first impression, i say go for it, looks pretty cool...

Thanks guys for the input. 1st one it is, mainly an "atmosphere" shot rather than an aircraft portrait.

By the way, those lines are what I get with my Coolscan III when it isn't warmed up. I need to run anywhere between 3 to 20 quick scans for those lines to steadily disappear. The lines show up in different spots each time, and I use compressed air to clean it out every once in a while, with no effect.

But after a few warm-up scans, the lines eventually disappear and they don't come back, at least until the next day.

I have no idea what that is about.

YEAH! ZRH at its best. Cool pics! But I wouldn't upload any of them. I think, you have to be familiar with ZRH to "understand" those pics better. And - as FastGlass said - there are some distinct vertical bandings on the left side of the pic.

yeah and most pictures that have parts of the aircraft obstructed don't get accepted.

Nice pics but i get that feeling that the aircraft is not the main part of the picture, if you get what i mean.

The first one would go into my "nearly brilliant" category - had you caught the aircraft as it passed the umbrellas, I think it would be fantastic - as it is, I'm afraid the composition just doesn't have a focus. I'm sure if it were mine, I'd be tempted to upload, but objectively I don't think it works.

The banding appears to be due to OVER illumination of the Nikon's LEDs. The only explanation I can think of are faulty LED's, though these are pretty much binary devices - they work or they don't, or some kind of problem with the power supply ... surging? If this is the case, I would get it serviced pretty quick, as it could lead to more serious (and expensive) damage.

Cheers,

Colin

I haven't uploaded it yet. I've been working on my slide database system, and uploading has been a side show. I have about 600 slides that I still have not processed yet.

I did upload this morning a first batch from Zurich.

Well, I tried to get the first shot in, but Johan rejected it.

Oh well, it was a long shot anyway.

I guess Johan's in the middle of exams too. Not many pics getting processed these days...

Given the fact that this site has grown so much over the past year, and that nice summer photo-weather is just starting (in Europe, anyway), I think I can guess where Johan's going to be spending a whole lot of time this summer.

Cheers,

Charles
