Latest Concorde Official News

Mon Jul 16, 2001 6:42 pm

A BA press release has just come my way :

I am pleased to announce that Concorde's technical verification flight will
take place tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday 17th July.

Tomorrow's flight, which is a requirement of the manufacturer Airbus UK, is
part of the programme to return Concorde safely back to commercial service
again. It follows a series of ground tests and inspections and the installation
of Kevlar-rubber compound fuel tank liners designed to minimise any fuel leaks
should the wing skin be punctured. The wiring in the undercarriage area has
also been strengthened.

Concorde will depart from the Engineering base at 1400 local. It will fly for
approximately three and a half hours and land at RAF Brize Norton.

The flight will be under the command of Captain Mike Bannister and CAA Chief
Test pilot Jock Reid on behalf of Airbus UK. There will be no passengers on board.

This is another important step towards returning Concorde safely back to service
and I would like to thank the engineering teams for their tremendous work since
last year.

Peter,

Thanks! For once digital has the edge.

The weather was not nice at all with some serious low colud and rain hitting Heathrow just at the wrong time, if anybody has seen the landing TV coverage from Brize then I guess I had it lucky! That landing looked "interesting" with the wind blowing her about, but nice camera angle for the reverse thrust throwing the standing water up.

You know I forgot how good it sounded!

Regards

Paul

Yeah I saw the landing on TV at Brize. The wind really blowing the old girl around but I though not a bad landing.

Paul, yes there where some nice camera angles used by the TV companies which is good, I hate it when something as big as this is not convered as well as it could be.

Oh, the sound of concorde.........hopefully not long till we all hear it again

LGW
