Rejected Photos - How Can I Improve These?

Sun Jul 29, 2001 6:10 am

Hi all,

Among other photos uploaded, these were rejected for "low quality". Both Air Canada pics were additionally cited as "bad angle". Any comments on how quality can be improved?

What do YOU think could be the problem?
No offence, just wondering what you think yourself.

I frankly don't see a problem with these.

I think the problem is the softness/lack of sharpness.
Try unsharp mask before you down size.

I agree with Jan on the sharpness issue, still I believe that the KL '47 and SB '330 are powerful images and I certainly would have accepted them with a warning.

As for the supposed 'Bad Angle' shots! I have to ask the scanner(s).....'what are you smokin ?'(assuming that the scanner(s) kicked these 2 back) These are great angles, granted the 2nd AC '330 rear 3/4 is somewhat unsharp, but the first is a fantasatic photo.

#'s 1 & 4 are amazing shots. Frankly I dont see why they were rejected. Perhaps they are a tad too soft but pictures of much lower quality are acepted on a daily basis. Try using a little unsharp mask and re-submit them.

Actually the photos made it past the screeners - no issue there. They were, however, rejected at the last stage.

Looking back at the rejection message, the KLM and Sabena pics were not accepted because the pictures were not "in the right category". Initially I added them in the category of "dusk/dawn" - as these pictures were taken in the evening. Seems that wasn't the right category afterall. I've uploaded them once again - this time without putting a check in the "dusk/dawn" category.

Regarding the sharpness of the photos, it's as far as I can go with my scanner. I've tried unsharpening and using other tricks but then I end up with a "white edge" around the plane. Perhaps if I had a slide scanner ...

Have you checked the slides thru a 10x loupe?
If they lack in sharpness it's not much to do.

Yup, sharpness is great on the slides. My scanner's max DPI (optical) is 1200 but I can only effectively scan at 900 - that may be the problem. I'm not at liberty to purchase a new scanner, however nice that would be.

Hey the pics are great!

About the "bad angle" I wish we could see more pics in those angles. I guess they reject so many pics because they have large amounts to choose from.
