Ever Seen An Ugly Paint Scheme Like This?

Fri Aug 24, 2001 5:37 pm

Hi there,

Hapag-Lloyd from Germany has introduced their new paint scheme, which should also be painted on all Corsair and Britannia aircraft, just with CRL and BAL titles.

I found the old scheme much better:

What do think of it ? I hope it ends like LTUs new (old) scheme which will not be continued.

Regards

Mathias

Well, it's not the best one I've seen, that's for sure.

Looks liek the designer ran out of ideas...

But, a BIG plus for the fact that it is not white!!

To my opinion it's a downgrade compared to the old scheme, but it's not that bad to call it ugly !

I like the new Scheme. It's better than the old one. Looks cool. The only thing I don't like is the color of the text (i think orange would be better).

I agree that the new scheme is rather strange. That "purplish" red does not contrast very well with the blue. And Gill Sans font for the letters - come on, be more inventive...

It's sad that both Corsair and Britannia will also adopt this livery  Sad

Mathias, do you mean that LTU will continue with this livery and adopt it to the new A320's?

Terrible scheme. You wonder what did the executives smoke/drink to cause such a decision.

It's plain boring! It reminds me of the Korean Colors, which are also boring. Normally I don't like the all white fuselages, but this is worse.

However, I'll take a pic of them if I can  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

First of all, the color scheme makes me want to puke. Thats my view. Next, if brittania adopts the scheme, i'll break down crying. I not only like the white euros, they are my favorite. Brittannia has the best color scheme ever! Oh yes, I actually really like the new LTU scheme. Finaly, why don't some of the european airlines get creative like fronteir with their schemes? What happened to the days of creative BA tails? Im already sick of the new ribbon tail things. How about hawaiins special painted 717's? I love photographing them in hawaii! Anyway, thats my opinion, and sorry for straying.

Well, I am a little indiffrent on this particular livery. But at least it is not a so called 'Euro-White'.

While on the Euro-White subject, I believe that the Europeans and their carriers often get unjust blame for creating these dull liveries, when in reality a US carrier actually got this trend started in the late 60s. From what I remember, Airwest a US west coast regional carrier at the time actually introduced this design in 1968. This carrier would later become Hughes Airwest, better known for the banana yellow fleet of DC-9s, F-27s and 727s. I suppose why the Europeans (carriers) get the blame for this trend was because of Air France, UTA and Austrian's quick adoption of this design in the early to mid 70s as well as their high visability on the international scene. Here are two fine examples are provided by John Stewart

Looking at the world-of-tui website, it looks like the group partners will probably be painted with that bland colour scheme, although I hope they will offer subtle variations, like Go-Fly?

Yuk.
