Comparison Of Scans.. Need Feedback

Mon Sep 03, 2001 2:32 pm

Hi..

I have been scanning my pictures using both Vuescan and The S20 Software program provided for soem time.
I dont know why I do that.. I am like scanning my pictures twice !!
But I find taht the quality of the two are different..
One is better than the other.. But at times the other is better than the first one..

Well I need for help, u see. I have scanned my pictures and they both look alright, But is the quality of it good enough to be accepted into the database??

I have done everything like scan as TIFF or BMP and sharpen it a few times using Unsharp at 110% and 0.4 radius and 1 threshold.
I saved it as Jpeg and i have also got rid of dust and scratches using wand stuff..

Here is where my pictures are. U can tell the difference between the scans yet they are the same pictures,
Please, what do you guys think is better for quality, Perhaps if majority rules then I will stick with Either Vuescan or the original S20 Program..

Thanks in advance..

Vuescan is 100% better then the original softwere in the pics above. Everything is improved and the colours look much more natural.

Remember, I am only Concerned about Just the Quality of my pictures.
I dont give a wooden nickle about the picture being properly Level with the ground or dirt..

Quality. first.. then when i Upload I will work more to make my pict look better,.

Bo,
the Vuescan ones are way better.

Remember, when you decide to rotate the shots to get a straight horizon, do it before you sharpen.

Another vote for Vuescan. Watch out for that pink cast on the KAL shot though!

Thanks guys for your feedback...

it looks liek Vuescan socked the Original S20 Program..
So Now On I will scan my negstives wtih Vuescan.. which those were..

As for Slides, My decision has not been made yet as Using both gives good results under certain times..

ANd I will also try out GIMP as all I need to do now is to install it.

Thanks,

Bo
