Help With Digital Cameras

Ok I am wondering looking at digital camera's how far is lik 9x digital and 3x optical.
PLEASE HELP

3x about 96mm
10x about 380mm

I would only look at optical zoom when picking a digital camera, the digital portion of the zoom has never returned any crisp pictures in my experience to be worth considering.

I would suggest looking for a digital with at least a 7x optical zoom which equates to about a 200mm lens on a 35mm camera.
