Nice Robinson. But look at the Mystère 20's in the background:

Do they have missiles under the wings? What is the purpose of these things?

Hey Colin, you been shooting in security-sensitive areas again?

(I think you finally found yourself a pic that will get plenty of hits!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy)

I believe that there is a firm based in Europe that flys a couple of those things around that electronically simulate different aircraft for NATO planes to practice against. If that's not it, then it's probably a missile test of some sort.

Yes, you're right. This company (FR Aviation Ltd) fly special missions such as target towing and electronic warfare training (with the Falcon 20's).

Have a look at their homepage:

FRA fly a large number of DA 20s from Bournemouth, Hurn on target towing and electronic intercept missions, primarily for the Royal Navy but also the RAF and some NATO missions.

The items under the wings are for target towing

FR Aviation based at Bournemouth, get up to all sorts, , including operating a fleet of Falcon 20s on target towing, fishery protection, ECM and various test programs - if you have a look, you'll find some more Falcon pics from Bournemouth with interesting things under the wings.

Cheers,

Colin

Colin:

Thanks for your explanation!
I have taken a look at the FR Aviation Mystères in the database. Very interesting pictures indeed!

By the way, what a beautiful plane the Mystère 20 still is after almost 40 years!

Best wishes,

The FR fleet is split. There are around 8 aircraft based at Teesside Int'l and you can get ramp shots with a good lens - taxy shots on standard lens.

They frequently go on detachment though - I have seen them reported at Stornaway for example.
