Photography At Madrid Airport

Mon Nov 05, 2001 2:02 am

Dear friends:

I come from Madrid, and i have the chance to go to the airport and take photos, specially since the airport is being re-built. The thing is, that i would like to know which american airlines fly to this airport, i have seen Delta, Continental, American Airlines and U.S. Airlines, but i have never seen TWA, Nothwest nor United Airlines. Any idea if they fly here?

It´s too bad because i would like to see big planes, and most of the ones i see are Md-87s, 737s and 767s; Iberia has some 340s and 747s. Sometimes you see a 747-400 from Singapore Airlines, and another one from Thai, but that´s all!

please help me if you can, i take pictures near the new runway, is there a better place to take photos?

Gracias!!!!!

Do you take photos near that tunnel under the new rwy? I think it's only good if traffic is departing northbound. I tried to find another place near that new runway but didn't find any.

When I was there last March I took these photos from the Terminal, but it's only good in the afternoon because of the sun.

I also saw American Airlines 763, US Airways 762, AeroMexico 762, China Eastern A340, Singapore Airlines 744, Avensa DC-10 and Thai 744, between many other interesting airlines. Madrid it's nice for spotting.

Hola Luis!!! thank you for your help; and yes! i take pictures from a very close spot to the new runway, you know that just before the place you told me, the tunnel, there is a "rotonda" (it´s a round infrastructure for cars), then take the left way and go for about 3 or 4 kilometers, you pass very near to the place where you can see some grounded planes from Iberia (DC-10s, 727s,...), then you see another rotonda, and about 200 meters later there is a fuel station, i usually park the car there and walk for 15 minutes, in this place you can see planes since they start accelerating until they take-off and disappear in the air. It´s a very fine location, when you see a 747 and make a photo with a 100-300 mm, the whole plane doesn´t fit in the screen because of how close it is. (do you understand? sorry about my poor english!). If you come to madrid again tell me and we will go together to take some pictures!
P.S.: Can you see Real Madrid vs F.C. Barcelona today? you can see Luis Figo!!!  Smile

Hola Luis,

Thanks for reminding me about the Real Madrid - Barcelona game, I wasn't aware of that. Too bad here in Portugal it's passing on payed TV.

Thanks also for that tips, I stayed near the tunnel so I didn't find that place.

Saludos y la victoria al Real  Smile
