Your Comments On This Rejection Please

I don't bother with rejections much nowadays, but would I like to hear your comments on this one. What is wrong with it that causes "J" to state this a low "image quality". I'll rework and upload it again if you can identify the flaw.

Can't put my finger on anything in particular, but it looks somehow weird.
Maybe it is TOO bright, because the boundaries between the white and orange on the fuselage and tail almost seem to shimmer (rendering the impression of being blurry).
The outline of the tail also looks blurry.
Try reducing brightness a tad, maybe that will help.

Gerry,

Could be my eyes after looking through Peter's selection but the tail and engine titles look a little soft?? It just doesnt look as sharp as your normal shots.

Maybe i need glasses  Wink/being sarcastic

If I didn't know better I'd say this was overly compressed. None of the edges around the orange lettering are clearly defined at all.

it looks fine by me...
There are much crappier pictures that actually make it to a.net, and good ones that get rejected. Don't ask me why...

The colours don't look quite natural - the whole thing seems a little too bright, and the engine and tail definitely seem TOO orange! Too much colour saturation maybe?

Things aren't as sharp as they should be either - the lettering all looks soft - this can often be caused by the contrast of an image being too high, rather than the original being out of focus or blurred through camera shake.

I think the answer is probably a pic that's not so bright, maybe slightly less contrast or saturation of the colours. Whether or not you can effectively fix this depends on the original - in my experience it's much more difficult to fix a pic suffering from overexposure or too much contrast than it is to fix one that needs the contrast boosting.

Thanks for all your comments. Yes, I agree that this is a wierd one.
The template .tif version I've kept on my PC looks much better than the this example.
Obviously, the a.net compression is killing the shot too.
The uncompressed shot I uploaded @ 600k jpeg.
This was actually my second attempt with even "more" sharpening than before.

I have to agree too that the saturation is a bit high, now that you've pointed it out. My eyes can't seem to cope with it...and Chris's assertion of too much contrast? Maybe caused by my application of auto-balance (I think)...

I've taken quite a few sundown shots lately with variable results.
Now that I've got a handle on it, I might have one more go on the original.
If not, it's going into the bin....(do I look like a worried man?)

Cheers

Looking at all the other "rejection" threads today, it looks like "J" has been having a cull  Wink/being sarcastic  Wink/being sarcastic  Wink/being sarcastic
