Even though Jason's pic was number 200000, it wasn't the 200,000th pic currently in the database - quite a few have been removed over the years, explaining the discrepancy between number 200,000 and the 200,000th in the database.

Jason milligans was id 200000 but the other one is realyy the 200.000th picture. There are id missing. Just do a search on the homepage without any parameters and then count down from the first picture whis is number 200008 and you will see that ...

The 200.000th Picture - Amendment

Sat Dec 08, 2001 3:35 am

I did some catching up on deletion requests just after those photos were posted, and this now officially the 200,000th photo on the database ...

Hope no-one thinks this is cheating  Big grin ... the Sabena shot looked a much worthier "winner" anyway ... and it's still an AirNikon shot.

IMO the Sabena shot is better and much worthier to be photo 200000. Congrats to AirNikon for having two photos named no. 200K. Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Wait a sec.....I dont understand how that numbering system works.

What happens if you get some more deletion requests next week? Then wont that push number 200,000 a little further up in the database?

Maybe Johan will do some more deletions before adding new photos and then we can celebrate the 200,000th pic once more!

Explanation please. Does this mean if I told someone two months ago to look up photo #XXXXXX then they may or may not see the image I was referring to based on how many deletions there were since then of photos with numbers lower in the D.B?

Your gonna think I'm nuts with this one: What if photo
000001 were deleted. Would all other photos then have a number change?

I'm feeling pretty dumb asking this stuff. Glad it was someone else who brought it up, after all there are no dumb questions. Guy that told me that was a jerk, though.

There are no dumb questions, only stupid answers  Smile

If photo 00001 is deleted the others remain with the same ID number.

Lets say you have the following ID's:
1,3,7,8,9,11,15
The ID nr. 9 would be the 5th picture.
If you delete ID 1 form the db then
ID Nr
.

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
11 would be the 5th in the database.

The "200,000th" Picture

Sun Dec 09, 2001 5:28 am

The database number of an individual photo in the database never changes, regardless of any deletions. For example, #123456 has had this number since being added, and will continue to have that number for the life of this database.

Similarly, the photo with number 200000 will always have that number, but it wasn't the 200,000th photo on our database ... it was the 200,000th upload, but at the time there was only a total of about 195000 photos online, due to various deletions over the last four or so years.

Yesterday the total number of photos on the database, online at one time, went over the 200000 mark when a batch of AirNikon shots were uploaded. Initially, in this thread, the honour of being the 200,000th photo was given to a Southwest B737 photo - however, as uploads are added in batches, it could just as easily have been any of the others in that group. About an hour later I put through some long overdue duplicate deletions, bringing the total number of photos online to exactly 200000 - making this photo, the last one in the batch, the symbolic number 200000:

Of course, as soon as I put through another duplicate deletion of a photo with a number less than 205605 (and there are a few more waiting), then this photo will no longer be the 200,000th (as counted from the start of the database, counting all remaining entries) ... but then it is only intended to be a symbolic milestone, not a static one.
