It's not that we don't always get great pictures from Chris but these are really interesting. How "big" was the lens?

Glad you like them. I'm expecting a flood of "how did you take these?" and "can you tell me where this spot is at LHR?" emails...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Canon 100-400 IS + Canon D30 - max focal length is approx 610mm.

The Virgin shot is slightly hazy. The conditions were really hazy at LHR yesterday (Kingwide will testify to this), and the VS 747 was slightly further away when it started its right turn, so the haze is more evident.

There's another one (BA 747, Ndebele) waiting in the queue by the way...

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. This is one of those situations where with hindsight, I wish I had just stayed in that one spot the whole day and shot every 747 departure I could while the conditions were reasonably favourable.

This is the 3rd (and worst) shot of the "air to air"-looking ones, by the way - just added this morning:

To me it was pretty clear that those are 9R climbout shots taken with a looong lens. Otherwise they wouldn't be lit so perfectly by the sun and maybe less hazy.
I like the haze by the way but shouldn't there be some condensation over the wing. That could be a new challenge for you - get shots like those with vortex.  Wink/being sarcastic
I think it's great that you always find angles where people ask - where the hell was that?

By the way - this one was a clear "editors choice" at the moment I saw it. The sky, the tail - perfect!  Big thumbs up

I liked the look of them too, and i've seen a similar sort of angle of a BA 744 on rotation and it looked just as stunning.

the fact that it is showing so much of the wing, and the way the fuselage is, just makes the 744 look unbelievable, this is such a beautiful aircraft and this is 'in its best light' so to speak.

Regards

Dan

I know, more or less, from whereabouts Chris took these........but that might be telling!!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

but what I like about Chris' output is the fact he tries to vary the angles, positions etc, and thus inject creativity into his work.

Haha ! yah thats right.
SIN is Asia which I forgot to say.
Staying up late all these days is starting to show some negative effects..  Sad

Yah, I forgot to mention the others such as the ones you've already said. Sorry bout that guys! Didnt mean to put you guys in the shadows..  InnocentTheir work is also awesome as well.

The TNT Rainbow shot by Colin, Gary's Singapore and Aberdeen action, Milligans Aussie material and I could go on. .
I saw the Varig 777 shot by Paul the other day and that one looked niice!!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy Certainly guarantee acceptance as well as that Low light SIN 744.

Keep up the Good digital work.
I will still be working on my conventional Print/Slide films..

Kingwide and I were talking about this on Sat, and he suggested that an even better pic from this angle would be an ANA 744 - because you'd catch the rising sun on top of the wing. The only drawback of this: in the winter it's dark when the ANAs (and JALs) depart, and they wouldn't do the convenient right turn at 2 DME.  Sad
