Anyone Been Shooting Pics Lately?

Wed Dec 12, 2001 1:11 pm

I have been trying to shoot some pics on my trip to SLC, but the national guard people stole my film. I then tried to shoot some in canada, but decided not to. Anyone else having any luck? Or the same experience?

I'm going to my airport today to take a pic of a new painted plane. But the fog here has been bad, so I'm not sure if it will arrive today.

What do you mean, "They stole my film." Where were you shooting?

I've had no problems shooting from inside the terminals at ORD (T1), LGA and EWR one week ago.
That's no guarantee though, just my own experience.

Clarify "They Stole My Film"

Wed Dec 12, 2001 11:02 pm

I mean, I was shooting pictures through the window by the United gate on the B concourse, and two national guard guys came up and asked for the film, and they kept it

What an insult? How did you manage to not bother? That's a crude violation of your rights I think...  Angry

I think you can sue them because the only thing they are allowed to do is ask you to leave. What was the reason for taking the film? What did they make out from confiscating it?????? It IS a violation of your rights. First of all they should have had a warning for film confiscation. They have no right in confiscating items that cannot be used for terroristic actions.

Who knows what is legal now under the new laws...
(Before you grill me, this doesn't only apply to the US, most European countries have new anti-terror laws too, which I'm afraid are necessary, but come at a price for personal freedom of the innocent majority).

I wasn't shooting for a while, but I did start up again late last month with some in-terminal photos while on a layover in SFO. Then this last weekend I was back with a vengeance, shooting at LAX, LGB, LAS, SAN, and all sorts of little airports, and nowhere did anyone bother me, including police and airport ops.

The National Guard People said that the film could contain pictures that they might not want released, about the terminal of SLC. It didn't though.

Could you have asked to have the film returned to you after they've seen that it doesn't contain aynthing critical?

I could, but by that time, they would have ruined it. They took it back to the N.G. station, and unraveled it. Then they paid me the price of a roll of film, and told me to not to take another picture while in the state of Utah. Maybe things are just really strict because they are thinking ahead about security for the olympics. But still.

I might go spotting before Christmas when the people come out to go out of town for Christmas. I'll be out there at MDW that's where I go.

Yeah been out to LAX,SFO, and SYD taking pics recently. Havent had any problems. However we will see what how the Chinese take to aviation photographers in a few short weeks! I am hoping they wont care what so ever like everyone down in SYD!

Cheers!
