One In Twelve A.net Guys Are Affected.

When was the last time you got you eyes tested?
As part of my daytime job, it is a necessity every year.
Again, after my latest test, no problems.....
What I 'see' is virtuality.

Remember: at least one in twelve men suffer from some type
of colour blindness. Haven't you seen comments by other
guys over the months occasionally commenting :
".....the shot has a blue cast....." (?)
That could be an uncalibrated monitor or someone
suffering protanopia or deuteranopia..

Always keep this in mind...

Get you eyes tested. It's more important than calibrating your monitor.

Hmmmm is this a subtle, veiled message to our friendly neibhorhood screeners?  Big grin

JUST KIDDING GUYS!

I think you are all gentlemen and scholars, and I'd be more than happy to babysit your children or wash your cars, given the opportunity...

...keep that in mind when I upload a bunch of new stuff later today  Big grin

Gerry!

Don't think I need my eyes tested, I aint ever crashed into a plane yet! I always hear them before I see them.
Mind you in saying that I was handling the C17 last year on the short runway and as I cleared the 6000ft runway he was taxiing behind mind very very close! I.E less thank 25ft. He must have been in a hurry. He was on a training mission from Germany, they had a cargo of German finest wine and beer, maybe they saw customs coming.

Seriously through
Our eyes very important to us. Most opticians offer a free eye sight test. If you wish to work and drive on the airfield you have to pass the strict medical exam which included eyes and ears. In fact its the Class 1 HGV drivers exam you have to pass.

If my eyes are good enough for my pilot's licence medical... Mind you, that's no measure - I do have a slight colour vision defect but it doesn't stop my flying, so I certainly won't let it stop me uploading to airliners.net Big grin

Step right up and test your eyesight:

Stare at the black dot and notise the "fog".

Try to look at the black dots.

Well I'm color blind and to be quite honest, I have no idea if my pics have any cast. I can't tell. Big grin It's a lot less of a problem now than when I was younger because I've learned to recognize most of the colors, but it's tough sometimes.

I can kinda make these numbers out:

But can't see anything in these except dots:

Yup... Those four are fine. I can see the numbers. The interesting this is that sometimes I can see the numbers, sometimes I can't. I honestly do not believe that these dot things are a consistant test.

I think it depends on what the light is like at the time of the test.

8, 29, 45, 56 and the fifth was 11  Big grin

I can read of all those no problem. Even the colours I can easily say them without saying the words, its just a question of not reading what it says, just look at what colour the letters are.

Well I always thought I had great eyesight - I can read signs etc. at a greater distance than most people I know, no trouble reading fine print either. But last year I was getting more and more frequent headaches. To shut my wife up as much as anything, I went to the optician ... and guess what, I needed glasses. No problem with the eyesight as such, but the auto-focus function was a bit worn. Anyway, now my headaches are gone, and tiredness (esp. when driving) is much less.

Fortunately, this occured as I was changing cameras, so I was able to factor usability with glasses into the equation. Added bonus is that now I can shoot while wearing glasses, I can also shoot wearing sun-glasses which can be a real benefit on those rare bright summer days.

Cheers,

Colin

When I was tested for military service, the test included a test for colour blindness. I passed with flying colours (doh), not colourblind (at least not so serious that they could detect it with those numberblobs).
This was over a decade ago, but apart from a generally blurred vision I have no real problems  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Thom@s, the trait for colorblindness is a sex-linked recessive trait and only carried on the XX chromosome (only on the female). So you could only be colorblind if your mom were colorblind.

ILS, you're wrong. Since it is recessive, if your mom has one chromosome with the colorblindness gene and one without the colorblindness gene she will not be colorblind. If her son inherits the colorblindness gene, he WILL be colorblind. If he doesn't, he won't.

So even if a mom is not colorblind, her son can be. For males, it's based only on the mother. Females need to inherit the colorblindness gene from both the mother and father to be colorblind. So for a female to be colorblind, her father has to be colorblind and her mother has to have the colorblindness gene on at least one chromosome.
