I Need Help For My Digital Camera

Sun Feb 03, 2002 2:50 am

Hey,

I am in doubt of which digital camera I have to chose.
I am looking for a camera with this items:

1) the price: not more than €750
2) the zoom: I need at least a 240mm zoom
3) the pictures: sometimes I hear from people that their photos taken of landing pictures are a litle bit moved or hazy because of the high speed of the aircraft at that moment. In Brussels, the best spotting place is on the landing runway so it is important that all my photos are clear.

Who can help me?

The Sony F707 takes great landing shots and I dont think they are hazy.

I bought the Sony DSC F707 last week, above all after seeing some pics of Colin  Smile/happy/getting dizzy. My opinion: WHOAAAHHHH!!!! GO GET THIS CAMERA!!!!!!!

Really, the image quality is superb. Above all, the sharpness and the colors are amazing.

The zoom is (compared to a normal SLR) 38-190 mm (optical), with the possibility to go further with the digital zoom. But I would suggest, you look for a teleconverter to get more "real" zoom.

I have some pictures here in the pipeline. One of my first pics taken with that camera can also be seen at:

Thanks Gerardo

That's a great A330 picture.

What were your settings on the camera for this.I found by using Manual mode you can achieve a better quality photograph.

There are tele-converters out there for the F707. The BEST is the Olympus B-300 but they are now not made anymore.

This is the quality of the B300 below. The AA A300 was finals at Miami.

Hi Colin

First of all, thanks for your comments.

I tried to work with the F707 as with my SLR, a Canon EOS 30. So, I chose "S", shutter priority (time = 1/400). The exposure metering was in the normal position (Multi-pattern metering).

As the autofocus is a bit slower, than on a SLR, I decided to try with manual focus, which worked very good.

I'll have a look at the EXIF-informations at home. Perhaps I see more informations.

All in all, the results with the Sony F707 are fantastic. If I only could remember the filenames of my pics in the queue.....

Colin, those 2 pics you posted up there, are they 2 different pics, or is your zoom the fastest in the world?  Smile

Must be 2 different aircraft, at least judging by the reg-nr.

Thanks for info Gerardo and Cabbott!!!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

What I would ask:

Cabott: you said that the camera costs €850. I went to a website (nycameras.de) and there they write that the camera costs €1350. Who is right?

Another problem: The zoom (190mm) is not enough for in Brussels. There you need at least 240mm. How can you improve this? How many does it costs?

Frederic
