Yeah I dont believe in this Vuescan crap. I get fine results fromthe Minolta Scanning software.......
Anyway. If you're talking about the raw scan, yes they do come out dark but have you not fiddled around with the image correction area in the scanning software? Do you not use a photo manipulation tool such as Photoshop?
Justso you know this is what I do. I Scan as a 16 bit TIFF file at between 2400and 2820 dpi input resolution with an output resolution of 2400dpi. I also use either the sRGB colourspace or the Adobe Colourspace depending on the type of picture
Examples - Scanned at 2400dpi, 16 bit TIFF on sRGB colourspace. Converted to an 8bit JPEG file in Photoshop.
