Photography At Orlando (MCO)

Sat Mar 16, 2002 3:35 am

Are there any good photography spots at Orlando?

Most in the database seem to be approach shots which I assume were taken from McCoy road, where the Alamo rent a car place is, so I know this spot.

Are there any other good places for photography?
Also what are the authorities attitude towards us photographers, I've never tried photography in the states and its my first visit since September.

Thanks in advance,

Danny

Danny -

It's going to be hard to get really good shots. There is a place you can park your car right under the approach pattern (adjacent to the "beeline" interstate) and get some good landing shots. You will have to park your car at the far end of it. When leaving MCO go west on Lee Vista Road. There is a TGI Fridays on the corner. Just follow this road around.

You can also turn right on Lee Vista (east) and go to those business parks behind the hotels and get some nice landing shots.

When do you plan on coming? Maybe I can stop by and show you around.

I was just there on the 11th of this month, no hassle. I did spot from McCoy Rd, you won't get harassed there, and it's a decent spot to shoot from. Delta Air Cargo over by runway 17 is my other spot (for the heavies in the afternoon). SO FAR (knock on wood) nobody has stopped me or called airport authorites on me.

When I was in MCO about three weeks ago, sadly they were landing from the south all the time. When the landing are from this direction, Orlando is about as big a waste of space as they come as far as photography is concerned. I hope you get landings from the north, but if you don't, my recommendation would be go to Kennedy Space Center!

Only time they use the 35/36 runways is when a cold front comes though (probably what happened in your case Andy), and yes, it's a waste of time...unless you like belly shots.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll be flying out on 3rd May (Fri) for two weeks, I'll have to try and get the ATIS on my scanner before I go to the airport and make sure the right runways are in use!

Let me know if you'll be around MCO during that time.

I'll try and get there this week if I can find a non-cloudy day and southerly winds. Justin, how is Sanford these days?

I haven't been to SFB at least in 10 months. I really want to go soon with the summer charters coming.

Is that parking lot on the southern entrance open in MCO. That looks like a qreat place to photograph taxing & departing aircraft.

Brian, e-mail me whenever that new JB scheme is coming in. Smile Thanx

I´m going to Orlando and Tampa this Friday, I will get there with the Copa Airlines 737-700. Hope to take some photos there.

But, I will stay in Tampa more time. So I hope to see something interesting there. I think Brian have a nice website, will all the information to spot there.

Regards,
