Which Airport Hotel?

Mon Apr 01, 2002 7:53 am

I'm now on holiday for the rest of this week and for a couple of nights I want to stay in an airport hotel within the UK.

What do you recommend with good vantage points for shooting pics?

Thanks

About 5 years ago I stayed at the Renaissance Hotel at Heathrow. I got a room with a view on the runway. It is an expensive hotel

Cheers,

Pierre

The Renaissance at Heathrow is indeed superb for a view of arriving/departing aircraft on rwy 27R. However, it faces south, so the sun is on the wrong side for pretty much all the time, apart from 1st thing in the morning and last thing at night during May/June/July...

Hi you London guys.
Does the hotel have a website? Which rooms should I ask for? Top level? Facing south? And what about the room windows can they be opened?
Chris your website is great. Very useful! One question about the free bus serice in the LHR area. Do i need some kind of ticket or just enter the bus without and leave the bus before it leaves the free ride area?

Hi Peter

Website is : http://www.renaissancehotels.com/dpp/PropertyPage.asp?MarshaCode=LHRBR

Booking is here : https://www.renaissancehotels.com/reservations/init.asp?brand=BR&marshacode=LHRBR&path=renaissance

Most rooms on top floor (floor 3) are club rooms (i.e expensive) normal room can be found on top floor.

The floor below is the the main floor for the normnal rooms. I stayed in 2204 which has nice views

When you ask ask for one over looking the airport around 2204. if you dont like your voiew (which I didnt when I went there) i went down to reception and said can I have a room with a better view of the airport and they said yes and moved me!

Its a nice hotel. also 27R is about a 15 mins walk (to the appraoch) or you can walk to the side of 27R in 5 mins.

There is a bus which runs between LHR and the hotel. its HEATHROW HOPPA and goes from T1/T2 and T3 NOT T4. It costs £3 one way (yes £3!!!!!) comes every 15 mins. You want the hoppa bus H6. Starts at about 5.45 in the morn and up to about 11.45 @ nite

The hotel has a tv channel on the TV in the room with arrivals and departures on which is handy

Hope this helps Peter

LGW

BTW Windows can NOT be opened  Sad they r double glazed. But not very badly tinted at all.

This was taken throught the glass. - Can you see the tinting?

I managed to open the 1st window (safter a lot of unscrewing!) no tinting and not double glazed so u can hear the rore of the aircraft  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

the free bus service at LHR requires no ticket at all. You just get on and off as required. You are supposed to state your destination to the driver by rights, but many don't seem very bothered.

If you don't have luggage, you can get a bus from the Bath Road (the main dual-carriageway) a few yards away from the Renaissance without having to resort to paying £3 for the Hoppa bus. From your side of the road the buses run towards the central area - from the far side they run toward Hatton Cross.

If you need any more info, drop me an email

Chris.

Are there any good bars or places to eat around LHR because i wont stay in the hotel for 95 Punds per night. I prefer spending that ammount on beer for a better sleep in the terminal. Big grin
