Teleconverter Question For Nikon Users.

Mon Apr 15, 2002 12:20 am

I shoot a Nikon N80 and I am looking for a used teleconverter (small budget). I have looked on Ebay and could only find a manual focus teleconverter. Do some photographers use this with their AF cameras? Any recomendations would be helpful.  Smile

Thanks in advance,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

I'm using a Kenko Pro 300, which was well-regarded by a lot of reports on the internet.

However, beware that it _will_ degrade the quality of your picture, and you should use it only in circumstances where you wouldn't otherwise get the picture.

Eric,
Will it degrade the image because of the quality of your converter or is that just the nature of doubling the length? Also is it AF or manual?

It degrades image quality because it decreases the strength of the lense: A f/5,6 lense will effectively become an f/11,2 with a 2x converter. With a 1,6 converter it will become a f/8,96 lense. This is not very handy and your pictures will look less bright. Using a teleconverter is a good choice if you have a f/2,8 lense.

It can also work in other situations, where the oppertunity to take the shot only became there BECAUSE of the converter. (if it would've been to far without one for instance)
