Minolta DiMAGE 7 5.2 Megapixel

Tue Apr 23, 2002 11:56 am

Does anyone have any aviation photography experience with the new Minolta DiMAGE 7 5.2 megapixel? Many good reviews on the web for general photography.

Any input appreciated.

(sorry about the double post under the other topic if anyone saw it there, I've asked a.net to remove it from that thread...)

The one thing that kept me from getting it is the noise it produces on photos. I could have gotten it for $200 cheaper than my F707...but if you are going to spend the money...might as well get something good. www.dpreview.com has some helpful reviews on it.

I've been generally satisfied with it (see below). Hey Dazed, did you demo the camera or did you read about the noise? If the latter, can you direct me to the article (is it in the aforementioned dpreview.com)?

Have just got the D7 myself and am very pleased with the results - if you search for my pictures (Paul Chandler) they are the first 20 (not the foshing ATR though)

All digicams produce noise when used at ISO400 or over. Reviews of the D7 are generally excellent, the only consistent minus being the short batterylife. A few sets of spares fix that  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

The main reason I haven't gotten one (or the D5 which has lower resolution but longer optical zoom) is the pricetag which is just over what I want to spend on a digicam.

I'm stupid, sorry. Probably the D5 I was looking at, sorry. The night shots on it looked bad, even at 100iso.

You gotta remember that the nightpicture you linked to was taken with a shutterspeed of 14 seconds. Long shutterspeeds will produce noise nomatter what ISO you use.

I'm not sure what we're comparing here... the dpreview one appears to be a pic straight from the D5 without any photoshop processing.
The one you linked to now is taken with what camera?, at what shutterspeed?, at what size?, using what compression?, processed how much in photoshop?

Also the settings of the camera can make a diffrence... the ammount of sharpness and contrast for example.
