Advice On Some Pics

Sat May 11, 2002 4:11 am

Hello everybody,

I have just bought a new scanner ( HP 4470C ) but it seems that I do something wrong because my pics do not turn out like I want  Sad
I think the main problem is the editing ( I use PSP 7 ) or maybe my scanner settings are fault, I really don't know.

Here are the pics :

Are you using any sharpening, such as "Unsharp Mask"?

Hey George,

Thanks for your reply.

I indeed use "unsharp mask". The settings I use are :
Radius : 1.20
strength : 100%
Clipping : 0

I hope that this helps you.

Greetz,

Tom

Hello Guys,

Maybe it is usefull when I explain what I have done with the pics :

1) I have scanned them at 1200 DPI
2) I have resized them to 1024 x ...
3) I have applied the Unsharp Mask tool
4) I have adjusted the brightness and contrast
5) I have used sharp tool

That's it I think. Hope this is usefull.

Greetz,

Tom

Looks like they are scanned from prints, if they are, scanning at more than 300 dpi isn't of much use.

Instead of using brightness/contrast, use the 'levels' tool instead. Read about it on http://www.scantips.com

Try using a radius of 0.6, strength 200% and clipping 5.

You using a high radius wich applies the sharpening to more than one neighbour pixel.

Search for old topics by Edipic, he posted here an excellent link explaining the unsharp mask process.

Nice link, Staffan!  Smile

No-one has some more information??

It is sad to see that, after taking high quality pictures, and working on them (scanning, editing), that you don't get the result that you want.

So if someone knows more, post it here please.

Regards,
Frederic

Indeed nice link Staffan  Smile Lots of usefull information. Today I have scanned a few other pictures, and the results are a bit better, but still not the quality I had hoped for. Maybe after a lot of 'trail and error' the results wil get better.

Greetz,

Tom
