Finally Got A Letter From The TSA

Sun May 12, 2002 5:02 am

Finally, after almost 2 months of waiting and figuring I’d never get an answer, I got a letter from the TSA regarding airport photography. Now I can go up to CLL and catch that b*tch in a lie. I am going to enjoy seeing the look on her face but I’ll wait until her citizen solider is pulled out of the airport.

Read the first sentence of the second paragraph Eric...She'll come right back and say "CLL Isn't a TSA airport"

That is why I'm waiting for the national guard to leave. She won't be able to call Mr. Rambo to get rid of me. Texas A&M is going to replace the national guard with the Univeristy police for the time being. The women I've been dealing with isn't a cop, her title is "Assistant to the Director".

No sir. Not all airports are under TSA authority. To my knowledge, only FLL, BWI and some others are. I know for sure Portland, San Jose, and Seattle are not.

Airport safety regulations are the same @ all airports. Only National in D.C. has special standards for obvious reasons. Each airport can add to it with local regulations but the federal standards are going to be the same everywhere. The TSA took over airport security from the FAA. When I wrote the FAA, the letter I was sent back said to write the TSA but @ the time authority was handed over to the TSA, photogrpahy was not illegal.

I was, up until recently, a Ground Security Coordinator for a well known airline. I can assure you, ALL airports in the US are under TSA direction.

The 2nd to last paragraph voids the entire document.
Tells you that any airport can (and after Sept.11 probably will have) asked for and gotten local laws that DO put in effect restrictions that are not set down in federal law.
Tells you to get each city, state and airport to send you a similar letter for that specific location.

Hi,

Do you, by any chance, have the letter that you sent and where to send it? It would be great for me (an many others, I am sure) to have that, and since you already did obvoiously GREAT work  Smile Smile/happy/getting dizzy

If you could post/email it, I would be VERY greatful.

Thanks!

Jwenting, the point is most local governments have NOT outlawed aviation photography. Whenever we're hassled, we're told it was the Federal Government, FAA, TSA, etc. The witch here @ CLL says that the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT outlawed photography, not the local airport. Since Texas A&M University runs the airport, I spoke with the head of the University police about this. He said that TAMU has not created a policy to prohibit photography.

Airplanenut, I'm sorry but I deleted the letter a few weeks ago when I was cleaning up my hard drive. All it basically said that I had been informed by the local airport officials that the Feds had outlawed all photography @ airports and I was seeking proof one way or the other.

This is the address I sent it to. Took about 6 weeks for a reply. Must be the normal length of time for a bureaucratic organization to write a letter.

I am shocked that a Fed actually signed it.

Time to go public, write you comments to the editor...IMHO.
