Spotting At RDU

Wed May 15, 2002 11:39 pm

Hi All,

I'm going to RDU this Sunday. Can anyone tell me where to go for afternoon spotting? I'm gonna be there around 1pm.
Also, what kind of traffic I should expect there?

Thanks,
Rafal

Yeah, that was me who asked before. If I go to North Carolina I'd hit both.

last i heard there were a few midway's left...but i also heard that American Eagle has moved in and they are pretty big there....also you'll have a variety of stuff from US, also SW, DL 757s, NW DC-9s, and the other majors...the highlight of your day will be the AA 777 departure to London...not sure what time it leaves...i was thinking somewhere between 5-6pm? anyway, good luck and i hope to get down there sometime soon!

Not great for taking pictures anymore...They put up some ungodly powerlines now that inhibit the view...But if you are just looking, enjoy! I take it you know where the observation deck is? Here is a map from RDU's site, but it is a bit complicated.

Go past Terminal A, and as you are approaching Terminal C, you will see a little road that cuts off to the right. Take that, and follow that all the way around the road past the tower and there is a parking lot right in the back of the deck (hard to miss the deck). Watch out for passing children pretending to be airplanes...

Hope this helps...Have Fun...
