How Do You Remove Dust From Your Slides?

Thu Jun 20, 2002 11:46 am

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering what everyone's "method of choice" is for removing dust from slides. I've got a lot of old ones that are somewhat dusty and I'm afraid to try cleaning them for fear of scratching them.

Input would be appreciated!!

Canned air works...it gives you a good buzz too if you happen to smell it...

Yup. I used canned (compressed) air. Plus, it's fun to discharge while holding upside down and pretend you are firing orbital maneuvering jets... Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Whatever you do, don't TOUCH the film/neg/transparency with your bare fingers. Oils are bad.

What you can also try for some larger dust particles is flicking the frame of the slides with your finger. Usually it comes of then. Just be carefull not to hit the slide itself Smile

Digital ICE helps me avoid removing the dust but if there is a lot of dust concentrated, I use canned air.
