Getting Prints Done From Canon D30's

Fri Jun 21, 2002 3:19 am

I all, i know gary watt has used photobox? for photos done by his D30

any other d30 or other digital users infact used any printing companies for prints from their cameras?

a more specific question to d30 users, chris, gary, jason, marlo, sven and any other d30 users ... what do you do to your shot before getting printed? if i was going to get a print about at 6x4 or 7x5 what should i do? with regards to resizing, sharpeing and any other minipulation?

thanks for any help guys

What I did was the usual preparation that goes into getting a photo ready to upload. By this, you are making it look it's best. Almost everyone knows that digital photos need the right manipulation to be totally perfect, particularly is you shoot in RAW format.

I downloaded it to my computer, touched it up in photoshop, changed the resolution to 360dpi, then uploaded it to the cf memory card and took that card to the photo store & had it printed. of course if you own a printer it's easier!

If all you're going to print is 7x5 then i dont think you have to worry about size. if you want a bigger print you'd need to keep the large size as it comes from the camera. My print came from a 1024x768 size and looks fine!

1. Resize the picture or blow it up until you get 300 ppi
2. Adjust brightness, contrast, intensity if necessary
3. Sharpen the picture with unsharp mask. You can sharpen it more than for displaying it on a screen. Normally i double the settings for sharpening.

In Hong Kong, I go to a shop called Fotomax for prints from my D60. They use Fuji equipment and paper. In short the results are stunning!!

All I do is crop away the unwanted parts of the photo. I have tried varying the sharpness settings, but it doesn't affect the result at all. I'm not sure why, but perhaps they do some kind of auto-sharpening during the printing process? I do not resize the image either as the shop has told me to give them the largest file possible.

I think if you have a good quality file to begin with, it is not necessary to do so many 'tweaks' before sending it off to print. With my old Pro90, un-tweaked shots looked terrible, and even tweaked ones had lots of problems, like very noticeable noise, overexposed areas etc.

humm, no. If everyone bought an F80/100 or F5 then the prices would sky rocket as the demand would be so great that nikon could charge what they want and still sell the bodies!!!

Il try a few methods of printing and try to get back to yuo about the results

and after using the D30 for a week - forget film!

Yes, I think I should have added that my D60 prints are better than my prints from my film camera!

That would only be if the number of people who buy them would increase a lot LGW. I don't anticipate that  Innocent

b.t.w. the best way to get prints of a D30 is to put it under a photocopier and press the "copy" button on that  Big thumbs up
