8x20 Are How Many ...mm?

Mon Jul 01, 2002 9:44 pm

Hello spotters,

yesterday I was sitting in the garten and while I was eating an aircraft flew over me. No extraordinary thing, but I was interested and took my binoculars to look what type it was. I used a 8x20, and the view was gigantic! A 747, lighted up by the sunset, with tremendous orange trails. Can somebody tell me how big the focal length must be to get the same size as from 8x20 binoculars? Thanks for your help, best regards Markus

8x magnification is approximately 400mm. 20mm frontlens is probably equivalent (never did the math to something like f/6.7 (give or take a stop).
I wish I were flying

LGW, it's not nice to make fun of a person's punctuation - or lack thereof. Sad This is especially true when the person is a native of another country - see 'garten' which I believe is German for 'garden'  Smile
