Canon EF 75-300mm F/4-5.6 Is USM

Tue Jul 09, 2002 9:59 pm

Hi all

Anyone have comments on the above Image Stabilised lens?

Possibly looking at this as a replacement for my current Sigma 70-210mm.

Comments and sample images would be much apprecaiated.

I use that lens Gary, just take a look at my photos to see some examples. It's a good lens for the price, sharp but the focus is not extremly fast. The IS is a wonderful technology.

AF is a little bit slow due to the IS funktion. But you get used to it and it is´nt something to make a big fuzz....  Big thumbs up

Kind Regards

It's a great lens either with or without the IS-function.

I presume with the IS turned off its exactly the same lens as the bog standard 75-300mm USM without IS built into it ?

Gazza,

Same lense I use, and I agree with everyone that the autofocus is rather slow. But a quick flick of a switch and you go to Manual Focus and it works as fast as you like! The IS feature is brilliant..... for still or slow moving objects. Using it for a landing or departing aircraft doesn't quite work so well.....

That being said, having the IS feature on the D30/60 is a great option. Digital magnification of the image takes the 300mm out to 480mm so it gives you just a little more versatility in low light situations.

All you've gotta do now mate is get the Sigma 170-500mm baby! Now THAT is a fun lense!
