CLT/ATA 7/18/02

Mon Jul 15, 2002 2:36 am

Anyone planning on going out to CLT for the inaugural ATA flight? The B738 is scheduled to arrive from MDW @ 9:35am.

I'm gonna try to be there as early as I can. Getting up at 7 AM is hell when you sleep 12 hours a day Yawn

Maybe we can get a group together that day and do some shooting? I know Jonathan Derden goes to CLT sometimes, maybe he can meet us as well.

I'm gonna give it a shot as well... Will the observation area be the best place?... If they are landing from the south, I may try the "unofficial" parking area at the end of 36R... I realize that gives me a 50/50 chance of not getting a very good view, but what the heck...

Shameless plug for you CLT guys:

Regardless of whether it lands on 18R or 36L, I think the overlook will be the best spot. I'm pretty sure that it'll be landing on 18R or 36L versus 18L and 36R because it'll be arriving at the A concourse. I think?

Is that really a factor in determining which runway they are cleared to?... I don't know enough about airport ops to know... But if that's the case, then I would agree the overlook will be the place to be...

Although I have seen DL & CO use runway 23, most airlines in "A" concourse use 18R/36L. Anyway, I'm going to take my chances at the overlook. Depending on the sun, I may wander down road to where the approach path comes over Old Dowd. I think the best bet is the overlook. Do you think they will spray water to welcome them to CLT? Isn't that called the "shower of affection?"

No... That's USAirways execs spraying the runway with gasoline in hopes of scaring the new airline back to where it came from! Then, if that doesn't work, they will simply price ATA out of the market and that will be that...

Oh, don't get me started...  Angry

FYI, looks like flights are landing from the North today, so best bet will be the viewing area along 18R.
