Nikon D-100 Vs. Canon D60, Which To Rent?

Fri Jul 19, 2002 1:30 am

I am heading for YVR in the next couple of weeks, staying @ The Fairmont, and I plan to take some more shots from the 14th floor. Anyone know which would be a better rental, the D-100 or the D60? Both are $100 for the weekend, without a lens...

Depends on what lenses are available. If the right lens is available in Nikon mount, go with the D100, if the Canon lenses are better, go with the D60.
Dows the $100 include enough storage media for the trip?
Craig.

thanks Craig.

They offer a 1GB Microdrive as part of the rental package. Their lens selection is huge, I count 100+ diffrent options. I was thinking something like a 80-400mm f4.5-5.6 ED VR Nikor...but am solicting opinions!

If you have the option, rent both cameras and then you can compare side by side which one is better and which one you might buy.

Just an idea!

Ask yourself this, what do I want to achieve?

Do I want a combo that offeres me new opportunities, then I would rent the 300mm f2.8 plus a telelconverter. whopping 900mm for the Nikon and 960mm for the Canon.

If that is out of the question, go with the 80-400mm VR, nice lense...

the 80-400VR is an excellent lens, and now the lens of choice of many wildlife photographers (aircraft aren't much different from birds, just larger). If you can afford to, you might add a 35-70 f/2.8 AF-S and/or a 600mm f/4.0 AF-S (with maybe a 1.4x TC) depending on what you want to do.

You honestly couldn't go wrong with either setup...

The D100 with the 80-400mm VR would be a great choice or maybe a 80-200mm f2.8 (one of the sharpest zooms made).

If you decide to go with the D60, a 100-400mm IS is an awesome lens, very similar to Nikkor 80-400mm, except it comes in that dreadful Canon WHITE.  Big grin

Just see which package can get you more bang for your buck.

In most larger cities there are stores renting out cameras. Mainly Nikon but Canon as well these days.
Look in the yellow pages (or maybe the importer can give addresses).

Yeah, I'd like to know somewhere in England where you can rent cameras, I wouldn't mind renting one for a day or two, just to test!
