Aircraft Not Visible? Bad Motive?

Fri Jul 19, 2002 9:40 am

Either part of the aircraft is not visible on these photos or the
aircraft is fully visible but not centered in the frame. If the aircraft is
fully visible but not centered, you might try to crop the photo
so that the aircraft is centered. Whilst motivated close-up
shots are acceptable, you might be getting this rejection for a shot
where an aircraft is substantially pictured but a small amount of
the wingtip, tail or nose is cut off. In this case you should re-crop
the original photo to either include the whole aircraft or crop in
tighter.

I'm slowly working towards having a full set of rejection messages. In fact, I think this one may complete my collection!
Does that rejection message refer to the infamous "badmotive" rejection reason?
Should I re-edit the photograph? Would it stand a chance of inclusion in the database?

Thanks,
Jon.

Yep... That's badmotiv. It's a cool pic, but this type is likely to get thrown out these days. I'd say your only chance is if you can reference something unique about the photo... Take a lesson from these I've posted:

All eight of these would be likely candidates for badmotiv, except I made specific reference to something in each picture. Your caption, while funny, might work better if you said something like "Note oxidation of aluminum skin due to age and neglect..." or some such caption.

The photo does have a lot of "nose room" as we used to say in TV... Perhaps if you cropped it differently... Also, try clicking the "nose/winglet" checkbox when you submit it...

Good luck!

I think, as a general rule, you should assume A.net wants pics of complete aircraft. Parts of aircraft should be thought of as an exception added because:

1- the photograph has special aesthetic merit
2 - it focuses on a particularly interesting feature
3 - only pic of aircraft in db

Obviously 1 and 2 are open to interpretation, but should at least make you think before uploading.

Cheers,

Colin

Gents, thanks for your input. All points are duly noted....and hopefully I've learned from them.

Chaz, thanks for bringing your excellent photographs to my attention. I understand what you mean about referencing something.

Colin, understood! Yep, I shall think more before uploading.

Thanks again.
Jon.
