Tribute To The Airliners.Net Crew

Tue Aug 06, 2002 6:49 am

Hello fellow photographers,

First of all English is not my first language but I will try to explain a different point of view here.

My first photo was send in April 11 1999 and excepted the same day and it was crap!!!!

But A.Net had just started for a short period and they used almost any picture they could get, also Johan had the time to answer almost all the mails he got.

Times goes on and the site was growing and growing, the first complains where coming in the forum about a special list photographers who have special rights. In fact Johan used this list for the days he hadn’t much time and the stuff in this list was normally good quality.

Complaining goes on, the upload queue was too large. Screeners came in and were knocked down from the very first second they learned something new. Complaining goes on, how can you put more than 1000 pictures on the net in one day!!!! Nobody will see my picture now.
Higher standards was the answer for that problem. Queue grew, whining grew.
More screeners, more complains. Peter Unmuth gives a very good personal advice and he where immediate knocked down.

Sorry, but I’m sure that positive criticism will be highly appreciated by all members of the crew, but please DON’T SHOOT THE MESSANGER.

I think most of the screeners are more happy to smell the fuel and burning rubber in stead of judging your pictures, but someone has to do the job and they are there for you.

A.Net gives you dollars
A.Net gives you hits
A.Net gives nice contacts
A.Net gives sharing your hobby with thousands of people
A.NET GIVES FUN

So, I will thank all the members of the AIRLINERS.NET crew for the work they do for us photographers.

Happy shooting

Its about time. Well done George.
Yes, we sometimes do see screeners apparently "at fault" in OUR OPINION. But have the rest of us got the staying power to be a screener and take all the flack?

They're only human like us, but whingers seem to overlook this fact. They have their own pictures and their own hobby, quite often a family as well as a job to hold down.

Next time your picture gets rejected for a reason you disagree with, or complain about the queue or whatever, THINK a bit before you spit it out.

I suspect that George is part of the silent majority, as there over 900 photographers in the queue and we've had nothing like that on these forums.

Its true, sometimes you have to take a step back and grasp all the positives here, they waaay outweigh the negatives. Johan and the screeners should indeed be commended.

Nice topic, George!!

First thing I thought, when I saw your pic, was: "What a ... (I'll better leave it blank Smile/happy/getting dizzy). But I still know, how my pics were 3 years back  Laugh out loud.

I think, if you had put in a recent shot, we would have one more positive aspect - at least for me - of Airliners.net: you can learn, how to photograph!! compare your SQ shot with for example:

Great thread George!

Good to see there are still normal people around who are not frustrated Big grin

A.net gives fun indeed. It gives the opportunity to meet up with dozens of people who share the same interest. People who think positive... and enjoy life... That's one of the great things about A.net.

The screeners are doing a great job IMHO (but it doesn't make you popular if you say it in this forum Big grin )... spending hours a week on screening in their free time to keep A.net the number one aviation site with a constant flow of quality images. Last year on average 214 pics/day were added, last month 268, last week 331... can't see why people are moaning?....

What else can be said!
You are da man, George! Big grin Big grin

We all have to be thankful that the screeners and Johan put up with us, our constant complaining, bitching and moaning.....not an easy task!

Well done guys and the site has come a long way

Hello again,

First of all, I forgot a few things in my first message, please let starting to introduce myself.
Name : George Polfliet
Address : Wateringen the Netherlands
Local Airport : Schiphol Amsterdam

Shooting 1 : Very boring stuff, I'm not an artist like some other people on this web, I'm what you can call a database shooter, takes one site off the plane with the registration and a view tries to other positions. That gives me the very low average of about 150+ views out of 3500+ photos in the database.
But I don't care about $$$ stuff nor I care about hits on my pictures.

Shooting 2 : The equipment, amazing, not digital(!) and agree with many other people here the main thing isn't the equipment that count.
Yes, I have a lot of rejections too especially the last time, but I don't care, I can handle this. I have simply don't have the time to improve them. So if there is a rejection so be it.

Then I forgot something about Peter Unmuth (Sorry Peter) but there where photographers complaining about the "standard mails" e.g. what is blurry, can you be more specific? And peter (and others) gives the answer.

Oh, eh. For the Dutch guys, what are you thinking if airliners net doesn't exists was there an Amsterdam Gettogether in the first place?

Finally I have to look to my topic a few minutes ago and I found 18(!) positive reactions. Thank you guys but remember I'm only the messenger now. Please give the support to the A.NET crew, they deserve it, not me.

Kind Regards, George Polfliet

George,

Nope, without A.net there wouldn't have been a Gettogether, and I wouldn't have met some great people. It gives you a chance to show your stuff, and I am proud to have 135 pics on here with an average of about 370.

We really have to get the positive vibes running again here... Wink/being sarcastic

My interest for aviation went sky high when I joined A.net!!!
The interest were there before, but I was one of them who was at the gettogether last year, and it was a blast. That would never happen if it wasn't for Johan Lundgren and his www.Airliners.net

When in doubt, flat out!
