Fees For Non-profit Photo Use

Wed Aug 07, 2002 6:41 am

Hi all...

I am a true novice at this, so please forgive my naivete. I have been approached by the non-profit owners of an aircraft which was just added to the Airliners.Net dbase. They have just had the plane painted and want to use my photos for their website.

I wondered what the per photo (i have 5 in all) fee should be. I have worked in non-profits all my life and am pretty sure that they won't have much if any money to pay.

I have gone back into the archivees of this forum and have found suggestions, but they were mainly for "for-profit" companies.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of rides in their aircraft would be a nice compensation, don't you think?

It all depends on how you feel about the organisation.

Would you donate money to them? If so, you might donate the pictures instead and write them that it is a donation with equivalent monetary value of X, where X is the full commercial fee for the photos.
That way, they can register it as a donation (and know how much a photo does when sold at the same time), and so can you (if donations are tax-deductable).

Asking for a ride in the aircraft in addition to that would be nice. Doesn't cost them much (as long as they don't have to fly it just for you) and they get some exposure too.
Maybe a job is in it making more photos for them during the trip on a contract basis...
I wish I were flying

Thank you for your suggestions... I think the foundation is located far enough away from me that one or the other would have to fly there... Soooooo, I like the idea about donating the photos and using them as a tax deduction.

You guys are great. Thank you.
