A.net Photographer "self Potrait" Part Two!

Sun Aug 11, 2002 9:02 am

The first thread was getting tough for people with slow connections (losers), so I am starting a part 2.

Here is my last post, so it doesnt get missed. lol

Planeboy,

I was BORN in 1981!!!! lol

While you out trying to get in a woman, I was chillin in one for 9 months. lol

A.net Boxing sounds like a good idea. If you come to NYC, I'll even help book the bets. Bareknuckle of course, right? (ever see the movie "Snatch"?

Adn what was that gay comment about? I'm straight, so no thanks bro.

And the funnies are ALWYAS gonna keep coming. I think many folks on this site are kinda tight-ass, and I am here to loosen it up. (No gay jokes pertaining to loosenin tight-asses, please). LOL

Vasco, your daughters ever come to NYC? I'd love to show them around. (and yes Vasco, I do expect an answer here. lol)

Gee...one post? Come on guys...there's hundreds of regular photographers on this site that are neglecting the "post your mug" thread. Even forum members post their pics. Don't be bashful, people. It's all about unity heh. Ok, e'nuff said.  Big thumbs up

Dude, shawn... that's actually a pretty sweet picture man. I mean hey, you could use a little meat on those shoulders to make you look like a real man but the creativity of the shot nearly makes up for it!!

j/k... i really do like that idea

lol chris, I was thinking the same thing!! In fact the reason I look so scrawny in that pic is I was holding an external flash way down near my bum and I fired it during the exposure to get this - completely a self-pic Big grin

I must admit, I am also a railfan, and many people who are train nuts are VERY weird people. VERY socially awkward and borderline "window-licker".

But many of you seem almost normal, and some of you look like you actually get laid (I dont eitehr though, so dont worry lol)

I am jsut a lot mroe comfortable now seeing that you folks that psoted your pics arent as weird as railfans, which I was a little worried about.Like, M737Mc looks like any one of my friends. Come to NYC man...beer on me. You'd like the NYC ladies.  Big grin

So, BigPhil, its not just in the UK where railfans are weird. I used to go on rail tours along all nooks and crannies of the UK freight network. Then I realised one day that the train I was on was actually a mass escape from the local lunatic asylum. I prematurely ejected (spellcheck!) and came back into this hobby which was my first love anyway.
And do you have any bus enthusiasts out there. They're something else again...

Fortunately, I've never been caught on camera on a train

Phil, Are you really tall, or does your house have low ceilings? And is that Ayres Rock you are standing next to?

Gary, Vote 1

One by one folks. Let's all get in a single file line and ask Big Phil questions like that. lol (just goofin)

Ray, since we have the biggest bus operation in the world here (I think so at least), we most certainly have bus fans too. To be honest, they are even MORE weird than the train fanatics. I said that the railfans were borderline windowlickers.........but the bus folk ARE windowlickers. Freaked me out man. You couldn't pay me to go to a BusFest convention.

Shawn, the NYC Ladies would LOVE to hang out with the Sherminator. hee hee.  Big grin

Craig, I was in my basement there. Good call. Although I am 6'2".

The rock is not Ayers Rock. That'd be pretty cool though. It's jsut a rock near my home, about two blocks away, on the shore of College Point that overloooks LGA from across Flushing Bay.

If it wasn't for that rock, I wouldn't have started watching planes again. I would go there to meditate and read or write, and then I started looking up at all the planes that were departing and approaching.

And a question for everyone:

What's this "vote" thing about?

I don't know Shawn if that was meant as a compliment. As far as I remember wasn't the Sherminator part of American Pie....he seemed like a real geek/nerd to me............  Big grin

Well, well, I guess I couldn't help not being a part of this little 'self portrait' club, so here goes nothing:

Me in some gear I borrowed from a guy from FDNY's Engine 40. (I'd post one in my own gear, but I dont have any pics)

And here, it's me in action, at the Intrepid, in the city. (it's a Canon, if anyone cares)

Your fellow Noo Yawker and a.net photog Bill Hough is a super duper mega rail fan.... and he's also a bus foamer too. I just don't get those rail/bus/firetruck fans. Only things I like spotting are planes and women.  Big grin

Here is a new self picture that I took just this night.

Well here are the details about it:
Well here I was heading south on the freeway so I can find a spot with good weather for the metor shower (didn't find it, rain rain rain), and I was getting entranced by the red lights of my dash. And I thought you know this would make a good picture. So I pulled off in a dark area and shot a few pictures. Here is the best, ran though photo shop to get cleaned up from the ISO noise, and hot pixels.

Taken with my CP995, and ISO 800, 8 sec exp, F3.0, natural light from the dash.
At worst, you screw up and die.
