Photo Request From Airbus

Wed Aug 14, 2002 10:22 pm

Someome from Airbus has emailed me asking for permission to use one of my photos in a 'customer performance brochure'. Not sure what that is, but do you think I should ask for a small fee for this?

Thanks

Congratulations! Whilst it's always nice to have your name & talent up in lights,so to speak,i believe you should charge Airbus a fee.If they went to a professional photo library they would expect to be charged the going rate.
As most of us that use this site are enthusiasts rather than pro's,we like to see our stuff in print. I suppose it's a choice between having work published for free (hoping others see it & buy other photos of ours) or charge a fee & risk no publication.
I'd speak to Airbus see what they offer. If you're happy with that,go for it.
Good Luck!

Geoff.

P.S. Let us know how it goes.

It's their A345 at the Farnborough airshow. I would have thought they should have some photos of it themselves!

Hi, it's the first of the two photos above - I should have posted it in my original post. I wrote back to say that I usually charge a small fee, but he hasn't replied. Anyway, thanks for everyone's advice.

I would have thought they wanted the second pic. There must be hundreds like the first one.

I would not charge them but ask them to send you as many stickers and posters as they can.

Jan is back in business!

When a big manufacturer Like Airbus ask to use your photo, I would suck them dry, if I were you!
They can afford to make there own pro. photos, so why let them off the hook so easy!?
When in doubt, flat out!

You don't get it do you ?, they are asking you for a favour. If you tell them you want US$ 500 they are going to tell you to bugger off.

There seems to be a great deal of greed here.

Mr. Mogren, I understand that you do a lot of work for Just Planes and I understand you need payment but this is different.

How many copies will be made? I'd say $200ish.

For an amateur, I would say that the satisfaction of having your photo in demand, and published somewhere is payment enough. If it appeared in a book or magazine I would ask for a complimentary copy. I would ask for my name to be credited, and would ask for any stickers or anything like that, but I agree with HKGspotter. There is a lot of greed around here.

Why should a photo sell for nothing just because it was shot by an amateur?
If the buyer has decided it is of a good enough quality, then they should be prepared to pay for it. Amateurs sure need money for film?

Some might say the satisfaction of flying a Boeing is payment enough..  Wink/being sarcastic

If you think a couple of stickers make you happy, good for you.

Yes I too sense the greed in here CX_flyboy and Hkgspotter1.

Mr. Van Langenberg, well done on Airbus selecting your photo. Let this be a sense of achievement for the fact an aircraft manufacturer has selected your photo.

See you next spotting session!

So you all mean, that an airline should let a well-known person fly with them for free, just because it's an achievement that a VIP has selected this airline???

If Airbus wants this picture they have to pay for it. It can't be that they save their money by not paying an professional photographer to take some pics for them and getting the picture for free from airliners.net.
