Canon D60: White Balance Settings

Fri Aug 30, 2002 4:31 pm

Hi

Do you use the white balance settings at your camera? What kind of experience did you make with them?

Kind regards, Andi

I find that in most cases the D60 does a good job with the "auto" setting. Where this doesn't work so well (say, mixed lighting) I prefer to adjust colour balance when converting the RAW file - using Breezebrowser, it is possible to select a white point in the image and the software will then apply the appropriate custom white balance.

Cheers,

Hi Andi,

I think you'll find the consensus is to use AWB (Auto White Balance) and to make any corrections (if required) later in Photoshop (or similar).

Shooting in RAW mode (not something I do) allows you to apply white balance when extracting the image so you can then try various settings...and then again do any further adjustments in Photoshop afterwards.

I will sometimes (if it is either fully overcast or there is no cloud at all) use the corresponding white balance setting on the camera but have yet to see and obvious differences...

Or maybe I'm missing something...

Hope this helps!

Regards,
Dean
