Which Record Mode?

Mon Sep 02, 2002 1:22 am

Hi everyone,

I just bought an Olympus C-720UZ and I am wondering which record mode I should use. and why..TIFF, HQ, SHQ, SQ1, SQ2?

Thank you for your help!  Smile

SHQ is the best on the Olympus series.

You can store around 90 pictures on a 128 MB smart media card.

I have an Olympus D-490... I agree with Frederic that SHQ is best. Technically the TIFF setting would be the best, but you'll only be able to store maybe a fourth as much on your card, with (at least to my eye) no appreciable improvement in image quality.

Maybe somebody could explain the difference between TIFF and JPG?... I know JPG uses compression while TIFF does not, but other than that?...

The only drawback with recording in TIFF is the cache "speed" of writing the image , dependant on the camera it could take up to 30 seconds to write a TIFF image onto the card....

I would like to record in TIFF however speed dictates i write in JPEG @ 2500 resolution that way the loss of info is very small if any !

cheers
