Info 4 D60 Owners.

Mon Sep 16, 2002 2:44 pm

Hello again,

Despite the thick haze covering S.E Asia again I thought I'd try a few shots yesterday evening. Unfortunately, Mr D60 refused to cooperate, this time the autofocus would do anything but. I tried 3 different lenses all of which would not focus properly, the camera was constantly hunting or settling on a focus that was completely wrong resulting in nothing more than blurred images. Contrast and background light were sufficient for the autofocus system to perform.

Canon checked the camera and found the same fault. By trial and error they found that by switching from AI Servo to Single Frame shot, taking a few pictures, and then returning to AI Servo the autofocus system suddenly performed correctly again. All camera components were found to be fine so this is a new enigma, at least for Canon Singapore. The matter has been referred to Canon, Japan where the next firmware update may include a correction for this anomaly.

So if this should happen to any other D60 owners, before embarking on a possible long trip to Canon please try out the above first.

Hope this helps.

Now that's funny, I had a similar problem where the bloody thing wouldn't focus on an aircraft no matter what I tried. I turned it off, used manual focus to take a shot and then went back to auto focus and hey presto...... no problems! Wierd huh! I was using genuine Canon lenses at the time too.

Hope you enjoyed your trip to ADL mate!

Cheers,
Craigo

I've experienced (and know others have reported) occassional failure of AF. Remounting the lens usually fixes (had this on EOS-3 as well as D60). This seems to be a failure of lens and camera to communicate. I think Ejazz is reporting something different - a sfotware bug or problem with D60 electronics - never seen or heard of this elsewhere. Perhaps a one off?

Cheers,
