Shots Taken At 600mm.

Wed Sep 25, 2002 12:28 am

Hi folks,

I'd like to see some examples (in the UK preferably or in Europe) of photos taken full frame at 600mm. I now have this amount (629mm) at my disposable and apart from Bristol I'd like to know what I can do with it. I can't BELIEVE the quality of the B-300, its stunning. I took a photo of a fence post (it was like a decorative bit at the top) and my camera focused perfectly despite the house in the background, and the quality blew me away! Absolutely stunning.

One question though, I have a step down ring and I screwed it so tight (I thought the ring wasn't strong enough to hold the lens on otherwise) that it won't come off. I've already cut my hand quite badly trying to get it off so I am really stuck!

any help appreciated, and lots of photos please!!

thanks

Dan

Dan - don't force it! You can stress the lens and cause serious damage. What I think you need is a filter wrench - not expensive, available at most proper camera shops.

600mm shots - lots from Southampton and elsewhere - depends if you want "virtual" 600mm (which on my D60 is a 400mm lens) or a real 600 (300 & convertor). Anyway try searching ckw@soton.ac.uk and SOU for a few examples. Lens in use is noted.

Cheers

Ah ok thanks for the tips Colin! I stopped twisting as soon as I heard any sort of strain. My bad!

I just want to see shots at 600mm just to see what sort of photos I can take at airports.

OK, here's one from LHR which I'm fond of (I like the compression effect on all the dangly bits). This is a film shot, so is a "genuine" 600mm

Colin - Very nice  Smokin cool.

Ben - Yup yup. Only thing is it doesn't work as close now, no macro shots no more  Laugh out loud. I also have a widest aperture of f/3.2 I think, I haven't checked f/2.8 on full manual yet so  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

more more more pictures, please!

With 600mm you have a new world to photograph, using the compression in your advantage.

Dan, from the top until the JMC 757 front view was with a Canon 75-300 IS + Canon 2x TC, scanned with the S20, using Fuji Reala 100. From the Saudi 777 until the bottom was with a Sigma 100-300 + Soligor 2x, scanned with a flatbed HP 5100C, using different films.
