San Francsico

Tue Oct 01, 2002 6:58 am

Alright I did a seach on this but didn't find the information I need.

I'm looking to try my new Sony 707 out at either SFO or SAN. I understand there is a location in San Francisco that's quite popular for spotting. Can someone tell me how I may get there, using only a bus, or my two legs? No need to rent a car I hope, besides I plan to just fly in for a few hours.

Also I understand the place to be in SAN is Harbor Dr. and Laurel, can anyone confirm this, or add a better location to spot? Again, can I make do with only Bus or legs???

Planning to go tomarrow, so a quick response is great....Take Care Ryan

Ryan, Best place in SAN is there at Harbor and Laurel. It is walking distance from the terminal. There are a couple of other fair places to shoot from, but thats really the best. Lighting is good all day, no one will bother you.

If you do rent a car and want military stuff, North Island is really good. Just cross over the bridge into Coronado, get over to the beach side on Ocean Av. Go to the west end of the street where it dead ends into the air station. Go out on the beach and enjoy. (It is the dog beach, lots of nice views of people with their dogs....if you get my drift.  Smile )

Here's a website location about spotting at SFO, written up by Richard Silagi.

and here's one about spotting in San Diego:

As a native San Diegan, I'd have to urge you to go to SAN, which has far fewer photos in the database, but admittedly the variety of aircraft isn't as great as at SFO. You can certainly get a hell of a lot closer to the aircraft at SAN, by wandering around on the streets underneath the landing path. At SAN, you could probably get by on foot but you'd be doing quite a bit of walking. I think it's busline #2 that goes from the airport to downtown and vice-versa. Good luck!
