A Marketing Lesson...

Mon Oct 07, 2002 3:47 pm

From a photo request (from an air broker) that I got:

"This flyer will not be purchased by our clients, it is for marketing purposes only and not for financial gain."

Hahahaha!

Are they so stupid or do they think I am?

Had a great one last week. Guy who was writing a book (but said he was not an author) wanted to use one of my pics. Wasn't sure how many copies would be made, or if it was going to be published at all. I haven't emailed him back...

"Sorry, we won't pay you fir that pic. It will be used in a countrywide commercial, and as you know, we don't get profit from commercials"

Did I just understand that ???

I had a similar one to the book story....

"I am a child of 10 and I like aeroplanes, so I would like to make a little book on aeroplanes. As I don't have a camera with a zoom or a scanner at home I can't take my own photos. Please can I ask you if it would be alright to use some of your photos for my book? Please e-mail me a reply soon. Thank-you. Yours Sincerly,
XXX XXXXX"

If it was sincere, then how would a child of ten write a book and actually put the photos in it. Might need a publisher???

The child of ten also knows that she/he needs a good camera with a zoom, and a scanner to get the photos into digital format.

If the photos were needed for a "book" then wouldn't they have to be printed instead of being digital??

How about the parents' camera... surely a P&S camera would have been sufficient for a book by a ten year old??

Too many questions.....
.... but if a child of ten was using it for a book which wasn't to be published, then why ask permission in the first place. As bad as it is ( and I'm not condoning it ) it would have been easier to just steal it.

It all sounded too fishy to me.

Anyone had anything similar?

Cheers

"........This CAE Customer Newsletter will be inserted in the CAT Magazine (aviation
industry trade media) and sent to 1000 of our customers. Would it be possible for you, please, to let me know asap if there are any
opportunity I can use it once, free rights........."

At the time I did a little research and found out this about them "CAE today reported earnings from continuing operations for the first quarter ending June 30, 2002 of $37.4 million"

Cheap bastards.
You can guess where I told them to go  Yeah sure
