ShuttleCam: Awesome!

Tue Oct 08, 2002 8:12 am

NASA finally installed a rear-facing remote video camera to the external fuel tank of the Space Shuttle Atlantis to record today's launch. The footage, for those that did not see it, was INCREDIBLE. Everything was going well until the SRB separation when it looks like propellant covered the lens and fogged it up.

There's a still frame here (lower right):

I'm still trying to track down an encoded video. Anyone else find it?

Oh awsome, I was outside all day at work and forgot it went up...too bad I missed it. When they come home is the fun part....nothing like twin sonic booms shaking you out of bed at 3am haha  Big thumbs up

I was in Lab  Sad I missed it. Does anyone know where I can get the entire video just from the Shuttle Cam?
At worst, you screw up and die.

Yes, I saw the replay of the entire sequence from ignition until this camera went out. Excellent! For those who did not see it, when the Solid rocket Boosters seperated, the "cloud" of smoke fogged up the lens of the little remote cam. you could barely make out the shape of the Orbiter and the big Brown tank which the camera was mounted on. I thought it might show when the tank itself seperates, but it was not clear enough.

But a very good show nevertheless!!!
