That's More Like It Dmitry!

Sat Oct 26, 2002 2:50 am

Now... I know we all give Dmitry a hard time for some of his thread starters. (I am still waiting for a thread from him titled "Has Anyone Seen My Glasses?") I am guilty of it so consider this atonement...

Great shot Dmitry. Nice composition. Interesting angle. A backdrop unique to your locale.

Way to go.

And the Canadian Judge scores Dimitry a 5.9 for Artistic Merit.......

Well done Dimitry, but take a little more care in little oddities sticking into the photo. Look at the very edge (right hand side) and see the light standard sticking in. Watch all the edges of your frame when taking the photo, or else take it out with a little creative cloning in Photoshop.

This is your best effort that I have seen by far. Keep it up.

Steve.

I can spot young guys with talent- Dmitry is one of em. So is Tim D and Rob R- i saw Rob's potential back when he was 16. These guys are naturals and will continue to put out good stuff. They also listen to me carefully when i tell them their slides will one day pay for every expense of their hobby and then some.

Nice shot there Dmitry.

I didn't notice what Photopilot noticed.

You are showing creativity, not "creative cloning".

Cheers, Dripstick

I really like it when people step outside the box and think creatively. I think you did that really well here, Dmitry. Nice.

Photopilot, still training my eyes to notice that kind of distractions, could have easily cloned that out.

Thanks Joe, Out of us 3: Me, Tim de Groot, and Rob Rindt, Rob's at the head of the game (always enjoy looking at Rob's uploads)! I have been looking through some of Tim's uploads, hes doing excellent! And if I didn't listen to Joe's mighty words, don't think I would be anywhere near what I have achieved, with his friendly help!

Yevgeny and Thomas, you will just have to give me a visit sometime (I mean ANC)  Smile/happy/getting dizzy. Those backdrops are real comon here.

Thanks to everybody for the nice comments!

Very nice, very nice, although I do like the older 744Fs taking off better! try to do some more of those! they are great. And your rampshots are good too, very well composed!

I always knew Dmitry was a good photographer. I have some of his slides, and they're great!

I agree with you D, Rob's the one to beat. Stunning 50mm's and great actionshots. Too bad there aren't any other younger guys here shooting K.
I know a few others in their early 20's here in Europe, but that's about it.

And, yes listening to Joe has helped me as well, achieving better results, and shooting more for trading and sale. But then again I have a dad who shoots K, so I was raised beleiving there was only one slidefilm on the face of the earth Smile

Film? ... Digital is the way to go..anyway, its hard to say who is good and who is'nt...some airports have stunning locations like AMS and of course the mountains at ANC/GVA etc..some people are lucky with their local and some people have boring locals so its hard to judge

So if someone shoot K hes good? j/k  Wink/being sarcastic

If you are looking for great 50mm ramps, I for instance am not the one you should look for. But if you like unusual angles, and actionshots, perhaps you find more to your liking with guys like me and Ben. And as Ben said, it is very difficult to judge someone capabilities based on pics here.

I know you know I didn't mean it like that Wietse, but just for others.....
Not saying that if you shoot K you're good, just that D, Rob, are pretty good photogs, and I'm just glad they shoot Kodachrome.
And I think that when you look for nice actionshots you'll do pretty well too, looking at the shots of some Kodachrome guys.
In fact, I have much more actions on here than ramp, I know most people don't care for 50mm's that much.

Tim,

Now that I have scanned the Iran 74 and the Air Transat, I can appreciate a good 50mm shot. They just look great. But it is not the way for me to photograph planes. Add to that that I dont have any ramp acces, so 50mm-s would become difficult. I also would not have any fun in trading and selling slides... I only shoot for myself and I am way to unorganized to find slides and store them. So digital will be my future!

I shoot K64, but I did try 3 rolls of Fuji 100F, I would say it has pretty nice grain, but when I compare the 2 slides, there is quite a difference. Fuji tends to be a bit more softer than K64. K64 looks bulletproof compared to Fuji. But I am not against Fuji (action shots), but K64 will be the only way out for ramp shots!

Sorry, but putting out great photographs has nothing to do with age.

You either have an eye or you don't!
