Any Way To Improve This?

Tue Nov 05, 2002 11:22 am

Is there any way to improve this shot or is it done with? I kinda like it though.

Ah yes.... if it isn't yet another "rear" special from our friend PolishAir. Seriously dude, do you purposely try to capture every shot from the worst possible angle? I'll give you a hint : side-on. Try it sometime.

LOT, I like it, but I fear its too artistic and busy for a.net (though what isn't busy in Chicago).

B-OTCH, Side on shots are rather boring, once you have seen the same SW737 a few times with a standard full frame side on shot, whats the point?
At worst, you screw up and die.

Yeah, you're right about it not being special, but it definitely is rear!

And again B-OTCH is on the ball  Insane

Still waiting to see your pictures dude!

Very nice motiv, Peter! But indeed, the quality is not that great  Sad

Maybe sharpen it a bit up, and lower the contrast a bit?

Good luck!

Hey Peter,

I like the shot....Matter factly I might have the same shot as I was standing somewhere in the same vacinity shooting pics too..tee-hee. I too get tired of straight on side shots or profile shots.
I think the point or "motiv" of this shot is to show the just how damned low these planes are on short final....get over it and live with it guys..Peter does great work for a novice...Not all of you can say that you have a covershot for a flight training magazine at age 17!!!!!
Keep up the great Work!!

Yea this one goes out to all the Midway folks + Chris and Gary

are chris and gary aware that you associated their names with that picture?

nah, seriously man, there's too much sun... you would have had more luck if you shot in a rainstorm with low clouds like you typically do..

go get 'em next time champ...

HAHA!! hey dude, [polishair] with all due respect, you may have missed his point, which, i'm sorry to say, he does have a point. Have you looked at your pics lately? From a photographer's opinion, WAY too many shots done with little sun, no sun, or backlit.

Please take this as constructive critisism, i know you might not realize there is a problem since your pictures get accepted regularly, but that is pretty simply because the quality in terms of grain/sharpness is good (digital camera).

Anyway, that's all i wanted to say, i'm not trying to be mean, just helpful.

Chris...Yep i know that. You 2 have told me that last time. Thats why ive gone through like the last stuff i uploaded and checked that i didnt upload any overcast shots....

Yep i do realize that my earlier shots did have too much clouds and were backlit...which was due to the DLS and the white balance was off.

Before we all go bashing this kid for boring images, we have to give him credit for trying. We all have to start somewhere, and it's good to see him trying shots like the WN image above...and this one too:

If you would have tried that during a bright orange sunset, you'd have a monster shot on your hands. But because of the clouds: *yawn*

It just takes determination and practice. Based on the amount of pics you upload to this site, it looks as if you have both. Next time you're out at ORD, try something new - don't show us the same old mid-day snapshots from 27L. Show us the living monster that is ORD!

Keep at it dude...

*sigh* no silly!! it's due to YOU 1.) shooting with the subject between you and the sun, or 2) shooting with no sun. I dont know what DLS is but it's not that!!

it's cool though, and seriously, thanks for not getting defensive when critisized, you will earn respect that way.

take care,

chris

Chris...yep i perfectly knew it was the sun. However the DLS=The Notorious Dark Left side made it worse 2x. I have no problem with taking in criticizm <---I think thats how you spell it  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I personally like the idea, but the composition is off. If you had a tighter angle showing the cars on the street and the a/c it would work, but the airplane here is just that much too high, leaving too much space between it and the rest of the "action." (I hope this makes sense...under the influence of Vicadin...yee hahh...)

Had a hard time getting this one accepted (first time was due to low quality...F707 btw). I think with your shot, the plane is just a bit too high. Just keep trying different angles, not every shot you take has to be uploaded.

So did you appeal it or what?

To think I grew up in Chicago and never went to Midway...

Now try vicadin, flexaril and ibupfrofin together....Who needs an airplane?

I think this post ties in with this one:

http://www.airliners.net/discussions/aviation_photography/read.main/69270/

If this picture was rejected as badmotiv, and reuploaded, shouldn't it have been rejected again? Isn't that the new thing that the screeners are checking for? You can't improve motive.
