Will A Correct Size Filter Work With Any Lens?

Tue Nov 26, 2002 10:58 am

I was wondering if a correct sized filter will work with any lens of that size. Will it? I would like to try a polarizer filter and wanted to see if it would work with my camera and a lens that I will be getting in the near future. The lens is a Canon 75-300mm f4.0-5.6 II/III USM lens and the polarizer filter in question is a Quantaray 58mm circular polarizer filter. The filter size for the lens is 58mm. Thank you very much!

Yes, it will! As long as you can screw it on, or mount it in a holder, it will work. If the lens is smaller then the filter, you can usually buy step down rings that will make up the difference.

With a circular polarizer, make your filter adjustments AFTER focusing, as some lenses will rotate the end of the lens, throwing off the "dialed in" setting of the filter.
